i think it's laughable you're talking about him like hes some shadetree mechanic that is scrounging together resources to finish a passion project that benefits the car community.
he's loaded, and is clearly doing this primarily to make money, why give a business your services for free?

most of the enthusiasts on this forum are largely net negative in their "investment" into this platform but largely positive in their contribution to the community (diys, reviews, honest opinions).

you're romanticizing the wrong guy imo

Im no fan of his, but i gotta say that it does sound very much like an insult. And tbh i dont see anything wrong with his business model as long as its not misleading the customer. Perhaps he has a history of bad business practice? I havent heard any.
I'd rather have guys like him make more content on our m3 rather than other cars.

Have you not been on the old forum to know the egos back here?! 🤣 What should be a simple post about an upcoming build on a basically new M3 can’t go peacefully. Egos and opinions, we all have them…just some need theirs fed more than others. 😉

the point i'm trying to make is i'm pretty sure he's aware that he's a culture vulture and most likely has no qualms about it. the term doesn't even imply that bad business practices are at play, it simply points out the focus on making money where money can be made first and foremost. there's a dichotomy between being a passionate enthusiast and profiting off of a hobby and sometimes you don't have both

usdmej I dunno it just seems irrelevant to the topic of the thread and unnecessarily harsh. How about we take oldFanatic's advice and drop this i vote aye

fair enough, i used to watch his videos regularly but eventually got fatigued by them and it took me a while to figure out why. i have no animosity towards the guy its too bad it comes off that way

I see both sides. He can do as he pleases; good for him for having the $. But he adds nothing to the e46 m3 world other than having more videos of one on youtube you can watch.

TBF, it's hard to add to our knowledge base anyway as almost everything was discovered and doc'd on m3f, e46fans, here, cutters, et al. And if someone does improve things, it's a Hassan or a Karbonius or a Martyn.

If you think more exposure leading to rising prices on the cars and parts is a good thing, you've lost the plot, frankly. It just denies access to the many, leaving the privileged few, who seldom are true enthusiasts, as the new owners. Similar to real estate in popular areas. You want the E46 M3 to become New York or San Francisco?

My car/parts going up in value REDUCES my enjoyment of the car and ability to mod as I please, and raises the cost of insurance as well.

No, not really. At least I don’t think so. In any case there’s very little on YouTube, which is where the OP is known for.

Except he’s the only one that does clean and quality on an e46 m3 in YouTube. All other e46’s (in YouTube, which is what he’s known for) are beat, hacked, gutted, or swapped. That or have Chinese parts from the ground up.

Based on previous builds, Matt’s car will be better than 98% of the cars in that thread. At the very least the cleanest. And we get to watch it all happen.

not sure why the hate for it.

Are you looking for physically clean or aesthetically clean? I'm sure matt's will be the cleanest physically but you won't find many people here who would rather spend more time cleaning than driving.

If you mean the later, how do you reckon? Genuinely curious how you think his car will be any different or better.

Unless you get to test drive every other member’s car in that thread, you can’t say who’s is better (if you’re judging based on “driving”).

we can only go based on cleanliness, mods, sound, etc. I’m not sure what him driving his car has anything to do with us watching his build. It’s YouTube, not an enclosed driving course.

Hey lets not ban folks who have clean cars and ban folks who support Megan Racing instead?

That's indeed his business model. We cannot discount he was a true car enthusiast before all of this. He's an OG M3post member and had a classic E92 M3 build.

i think it's laughable you're talking about him like hes some shadetree mechanic that is scrounging together resources to finish a passion project that benefits the car community.

                                This isn't what I said.

If you're looking for clarifications on what I implied; it probably lies around Matt not having ultra niche, in-depth knowledge of 20 + platforms. The community could help him avoid common mistakes on these builds. I'm sure he'd feature NAM3 in return as I personally have with EuroConnex as I value what Obioban is doing. Forums still have a place in the automotive media landscape. This would help this community grow out of the shadows, and attract like-minded enthusiasts.

With the way the automotive industry is going, we should be inclusive.

If you think your knowledge is worth something of value to his business, make a pitch deck and sell your BMW M3 E46 consulting services.

most of the enthusiasts on this forum are largely net negative in their "investment" into this platform but largely positive in their contribution to the community (diys, reviews, honest opinions).

I guess that's a badge of honor you can wear proudly - just like the track badge. It's a "baller" argument I cannot get behind.

you're romanticizing the wrong guy imo

This isn't what I'm doing. I've repeatedly said I dislike his content and don't watch it. I'm simply attesting to the genuine intents Matt has to provide value to the car community in light of your "culture vulture" comment - which is inherently a judgement of his intents and his character.

He didn't start doing this to make money initially. He started this to get out of his own head with his lifelong passion for cars; specifically Porsches and BMW M cars.

It evolved into a business as his values resonated with many. Matt is clearly an entrepreneurial, business savvy individual. I see absolutely nothing wrong with him grabbing value for himself considering the various capital investments he has committed to this.

There's something to be said about having skin in the game and putting yourself out there. Most of us behind aren't doing this with anonymous usernames.
