The I/K-Bus spec says that the maximum frame size is 32 bytes, but being that so many different OEMs were part of making modules for these cars, they didn't all understand or care about that "limitation". Of course, the guy who sat down and wrote the code for the IHKA DID read that and probably just `memcpy(frame, buffer, sizeof(buffer));`

What PSUEng said is correct -- IHKAs made after 09/2003 do not have this bug. The problem is that the LSZ I/O status response message, to make the comfort blinkers work, is longer than they programmed the IHKA to accept which results in undefined behavior.

I’ll get my car’s VO to match its actual equipment and if the issue persists, get in touch with Ted for proper support. I’ll keep you all posted in case someone else has the same problem.

So just got mine, installed it on my 04 M3 Cabrio, bluetooth works great. I can't find the harness for the phone connector though. Anyone have tips for cabrio owners? Car is pre wired for phone.

Does it have the oval mirror or the mirror with the SOS button? If it has the SOS button, then the connector is probably already connected to the BMW Assist Module (TCU):

I had the same issue in my 2003 M3 and if I recall, Ted advised me to either 1] turn off triple blink or 2] upgrade to the later model HVAC control module. I upgraded the module and no problem since. Contact Ted and he'll give you proper direction; great person to work with.

I very recently retrofitted a CD53 and a Bluebus to my E46 325ti Compact (it originally came with a C43 Reverse radio).

Ever since, my HVAC randomly shuts off. Sometimes it won’t happen at all, sometimes it’ll do it twice in 30 min. It happens mostly when the radio is in Bluebus mode, though yesterday it happened with the radio completely off.

I’m still to update the car’s VO to tell it that it no longer has a C43 radio, but a CD53 instead. Not sure if that’s relevant.

I think it would, but I am not familiar enough with the CID to know.

Replacing the factory screen is something I have been looking at since supply for good screens is drying up. I haven't found a suitable screen -- it seems like this sector is so tight-nit with the OEMs that they don't put a lot of effort into other customers.



I hope you've figured this out or emails me by now -- sorry for missing this! the fix is to remove the unit from the case, locate the "RECOVERY" jumper and connect it to both pins. Once you reconnect it to USB, the green light will flash, indicating that it is ready to accept software.

Sort of -- I have all but written off the Carlinkit adapter as a viable option because it's just shit. There's a huge lag while on wireless carplay that makes the streaming experience extremely painful. Essentially, you'll pause a song but it'll continue playing for ~1.5 seconds. The other fellow I am working with has managed to get Android Auto working on the bare metal of the Raspberry Pi, so I'm hoping to do something similar with Carplay. The problem, of course, is that any implementations are closely guarded by Apple. I will be at least finishing the hardware side of things sometime this month.

I find that the lag isnt a big deal in real world experience. I have an android head unit in my other e46 with one of these types of adaptors. Mine is a zbox. They lag a little bit but work just fine.
