The infrastructure can and is being built.
Power generation is constantly being transitioned to renewables, faster and faster.

I will really miss this era and think we will have reasonably easy access to gas/oil during all of our lifetimes, but won't miss the pollution and noise one bit.
Electric trucks will not replace those that tow, and in socal the majority of trucks do exactly this. I like Elon and what he is doing, however.

    Obviously.

Sure, but infrastructure to support is severely lacking. I think it's interesting to note that LA smog has dramatically decreased every decade since the proliferation of the automobile. Now we have and have had for quite some time much cleaner air than we did 30-40 years ago, yet I never hear any mention of this and it is in no part due to electric vehicles. I do like the noise and would rather have what I consider to be white noise on the street rather than eerie silence personally. Now those shitboxes with trash exhausts are a whole other story.

Most cars don't make much appreciable noise, it's all tire noise which won't go away with EV's. Most of the obnoxious noise I hear is just shitty exhausts and Harleys. The nice sounding cars/bikes are few and far between!

I hear from the older generation that it's so much cleaner than it used to be. I think it's great! It's truly amazing how clean burning modern cars are.

once the range numbers get more favorable (and it's getting there) the adoption of EV trucks will probably be quicker than it has been for commuter cars

EVs are not well matched to long distance towing for sure.

But, 75% of trucks are used for towing 1 or less times per year, and, of the remaining 25%, a significant portion is not long distance/heavy load. So, while I agree that electric trucks won't replace those that tow large loads long distances any time soon, the vast majority of trucks could be replaced by EVs.

Color me biased on that one-- pretty decent odds I'll buy a Rivian if they add CarPlay to it. But, I haven't towed anything a long distance since I sold the dedicated track car.

Perhaps in philly but not in socal. Everyone is towing dirt bikes, quads, rzrs to the mountains, canyons and deserts on the weekends.

I meant on average, nation wide (per edmunds, 75% of people use their truck to tow one or less times per year).

Towing dirt bikes, quads, etc isn't going to be that large of a range hit. It's items with large amounts of aerodynamic drag (boats, enclosed car trailers, etc) that are going to kill the range. Or super heavy things, going up hill. But, dirt bikes and quads are neither heavy nor large.

You can tow those that you listed with a CRV, no need for for 10k pound towing capacity.

I don't care about generic statistics or averages, I'm telling you what I see in the largest metropolitan region in the country.

Guys, I'm not talking about a couple of dirt bikes in the bed. I'm talking about several of each in the bed and on a trailer (towing) to satisfy many people, every weekend. I saw a truck with a trailer with two 4 seat rzrs on it yesterday coming back from the canyon. It sounds like you don't see that where you live.

I mean, the statistic/averages speak to how often your local observation is relevant to the overall market.

My point was not that everyone who buys a truck now would be fine with an EV truck. My point was that the majority of people would be. Significant towing is an area where EVs are worse. It's also, statistically, not done by most truck owners.

Right, but my post was specific to those in socal and you are arguing a general point I made no comment on which I don't disagree with.

Ill counter this with my own anecdote as a Texan (largest truck market in the world)- the vast majority are neither towing nor hauling

I guess I don’t understand the relevance. Why do we care about a specific area rather than overall?

I replied to cobra about an exception to the situation he described and then you responded to my post essentially re-iterating what I said. You then went off on your own tangential argument repeating what cobra initially described, nothing to not understand.

So now that we've come full circle, let's carry on with the discussion.
