Now that we have completely derailed OP’s random thoughts column, I think an e39 m5 is a better overall weekend / special day car. E60/1 (non-m) is a better daily driver. Granted, our cars are not the most reliable cars out there, but it seems that owning an e60 m5 is like maintaining an aircraft carrier.

E60M is a way better car than E39M. In many regards. But the build quality and looks of E39 are absolutely unbeatable. I have both, and yes - the budget of maintaining and running E60M is astronomical. But the sound of that V10 at WOT makes you forget many things.

Don’t get rid of it, E39 is worth it just for it’s looks. I am looking for a E60, 6 speed manual and in Interlagos color.

Imola e39s break my brain. I’m 100% acclimated to imola being an M3 color, so I just can’t quite deal with it on other cars.

Anyone who says EV's will take over in a very short time period just means they live in a major city, a rich area, or the bay area. Go outside of one of these places and there is no infrastructure, culture, or economy to support it.

That said:
The injection of EV trucks to the market will change the culture part (slowly). I'm talking Ford Lightning.
The infrastructure can and is being built.
Power generation is constantly being transitioned to renewables, faster and faster.

I will really miss this era and think we will have reasonably easy access to gas/oil during all of our lifetimes, but won't miss the pollution and noise one bit.
