I appreciate the in-depth answer. I assume the "S" is for sport? Can't say I'm a fan of the "S" but I've thought about switching the LED color before - typically not the type of thing I'd even think about but for some reason the standard indicator has always underwhelmed me.

I was never aware of the facts you touched on. I wasn't sure if this was a custom overlay of some sort but always enjoy reading information like this. It's interesting to imagine the decision-making process on a minor detail like this from a macro level, meaning from idea to implementation (weird thought but I enjoy it).

I am also assuming "S" is for sport, but could be stability, slip or some German word that starts with "S". BMW advertised M-track mode as a setting to use primarily on track. Just a guess, but I think they did not want to confuse the consumer into thinking it was a sporty mode for street use, so they called it M-track mode rather than Sport traction control mode and got rid of the "S". It is basically the same symbol as DSC but without the triangle and the exclamation point.

I have a 12/2002 build MK60 non-ZCP car. Just added 712 rack. My cluster has the "S" in the overlay, but no LED based on illumination test.

I need to:

1] Code in my "CSL" rack in order to keep DSC from activating prematurely (first priority)
2] Optionally code for MTM with quick press of DSC to engage MTM; press and hold, deactivate DSC (second priority)
3] Future--code for CSL brakes when I install my ZCP rear calipers and front 345mm discs (later)
4] Potentially add the LED to the cluster board to illuminate the "S" for MTM, but not sure how that is different coding from case [2] above (later, depending how difficult this is--I found a tutorial a while back, but didnt' save it and can't find it now)

Any insight here is appreciated!

OK, so I need some help from the braintrust here, I've dug around through this thread and others and just get more confused.

Just the steering rack should be “LENKWINKELKENNLINIE_2” in the MK60 module. Change from “wert_05” to “wert_04”.

If you want to change everything to the ZCP/CSL settings, I would just go to edit your FA, add $7MA which is the option code for ZCP, then default code your MK60 module so it assumes all options automatically, otherwise just look in NCS Dummy which settings are appropriate (based on CSL,M_TRACK_MODE in the options field).

You then want to go back in with trace manipulation and look for “DTC_LAMPE” if memory serves me right this controls the light and the long/short press behavior, with it set to “aktiv” it assumes you have the light in the cluster, with it set to “nicht_aktiv” it will behave like a regular E46.

If you do add the LED the above can be reverted I think, and the cluster should have the option “ANZEIGE_HOCHLADEN” which enables the LED.

The LED can be added to the boards that don’t have it, I think we scavenged some orange LED from a donor board so it’s the exact same color, it also needs a resistor I remember.
I had an idea once to make it green but the green factory LEDs aren’t very bright and need two of them.

That all looks correct. If you want to go through the trouble of adding the LED, you can take the convertible top or SMG cog LED and move it over to the "S" for MTM. That is if you have a coupe or SMG swapped car. You will also need a ~150 ohm and 0 ohm surface mount resistor to make the LED functional. It is a delicate job as it requires carefully disassembling the cluster and that means removing and repositioning all the needles (depth of the needles matters, too). If you don't want to bother with the LED, just stick to method 2. The "S" MTM LED does look good though when it is functional.

Are you trying to use the ECUWorx binary tool or NCSExpert?

Do you just need to add to the VO or do you need to alter values for your non-zcp/csl steering rack and brakes as well?

I've been trying to get this coded in but am doing something wrong, doesn't seem to be taking. I successfully made a few other changes in NCS independent of this change, like turning off DRLs, changing the hazard light blink pattern, etc - so I somewhat know what I'm doing.

My car has the M track symbol (gauge test screenshot shown below). For the following MK60 adjustment setting of "DTC_LAMPE", this would be set to "Aktiv" in my instance, correct?

d. If you don’t have a functional M-track symbol, and don’t want to solder the LED, set “DTC_LAMPE” to “nicht_aktiv”
i. This will make the DSC system act like the non-M DSC where a single press makes the DSC symbol light up, and a long press makes the DSC and Brake lights turn on.

I don't have ZCP brakes or rack and those have been set accordingly.

For some reason my .man file wasn't saving the first two times. I feel like I did the exact same steps the first two attempts, but third time was indeed the charm and I now have working M Track Mode. Yay.

Just too be 100% clear "wert_04" is the correct option for a ZHP/712/"Yellowtag" steering rack?

I coded M-track years back to a non-ZCP car that now has a ZHP rack installed and need to code it correctly.

Now I just need to remember how to use NCS again, specifically how to just change this one thing without doing the whole add to VO instructions.
