Had my local diff shop rebuild my diff using their GKN clutch pack kit. Worked great!

I contacted them last week and the v2 is for cars that aer post 2005 and more complex to rebuild. Also backlash does not have to be redone unless swapping out lsd units or changing gear ratio. I ordered the advanced V1 kit today and a 3.91 gear and pinion to get rebuilt at a local shop. He was going to make a viedo on setting lash before Covid but hadn't had time.

Ordered my kit last night. The description says V1 is for E46 M3s and the V2 is for the E90s and E60s I think. So, we would want V1. I got their advanced kit for like $450 shipped. Can't argue with that. Once I recieve it I'll take some pictures of the stuff. Then once I install it, we'll see how it does. I'll be doing it a BMW dealership so I'll have a few guys who will be able to help me if I need it. I'll look for the manual if I can find it. Hopefully they have special tools to make my life easier. Taking a grinder to bearings always bothered me.This is my Unbuild Journal and why we need an oil thread

Ive been researching this a lot lately. My lsd takes a while to lock up. I figured while I have the differential out I may as well upgrade to a 3.91. Looking at diffsonline I can’t justify the cost but racingdiffs I feel better about it if the parts are quality. The best price I’ve seen on the 3.91 ring and pinion is 864 soo far. I’ll probably pull the trigger on the v1 advanced soon. For the cost of the vice and press from harbor freight, I can have it rebuilt by a local shop that does a lot of diffs so I’m a little torn on doing it myself.Last edited by Mspir3d; 12-30-2020, 07:28 PM.

I worked on my diff today, I was supposed to only change seals and o-rings but ended up ordering Racingdiffs advanced pack v1 and I will install a spare 4.10 pinion/ring I had for a while to replace my 3.91 finally.
For anybody wondering, I tought my 2005 & my 2006 would share the same GKN LSD as a Z4M but in my 2005 I really have 8 plates and 7 clutches like RacingDiffs mention in pack v1.

The Gen2 cracks open from the opposite side, and needs a special tool. Gen1 opens from the ring side

Good to know! My 2006/04 is probably a Gen2 than.
I opened my Z4M Coupe diff to swap a 4.10pinion/ring in it back in the days but didn’t pay attention to the LSD cause didn’t had to open it. I remember it had bigger opening like this one and it was easier to see the clutches vs a Gen1.
