    Dead Pixels

I see some people are replacing their dead pixel screens with this. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...BR53U&_sacat=0

    Has anyone done this conversion?

Funny you post this because I parked my car in the sun on a hot day for about 3 hours and came back to a bunch of dead pixels.. These cars are starting to show their age. Yes you can swap the screens but from what I have read, its not a project you want to attempt yourself. I am going to ship mine out to be professionally swapped.

Is there a reputable vendor that completes these swaps regularly?

I swapped mine fairly recent. Just need a nice precision screwdriver. Some folks said that they needed to adjust the screen position, but mine was spot on from the factory.

Thanks for the input. Would love some direction or a place to send mine off to. Anyone interested in making extra money?

Yeah, mine has been perfect up until this spring when I started the car.

Sorry, can't confirm. The eBay listing I purchased listed all the part number variations. This was $75 shipped back in 2018.

Take your time/be careful with all the ribbon cables, its not hard just remove and replace. Also like Epsilon said, make sure the screen is centered properly because you cannot adjust once it is back together.

BTW this is the one I bought

I have yet to research that more thoroughly. I came across a few that had mixed reviews and most of the reviews are old.

There is a nice youtube video on how to do it.

I remember a more comprehensive one that I cant seem to find now. I think I may have watched this one thinking the E46 unit was the same as X5 and E39? it looks different on the back but I thought they were all the same MKIV unit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhCnLbcl5m0

I was speaking to t3ddftw about this recently and he said for the E46 it is PN LQ065T9BR53 or LQ065T9BR53U.

The guy skipped a lot of minor in between steps in the videos, but fortunately, they are self-intuitive with a little exploration. I did buy a broken unit to experiment on before making the commitment on my actual unit.

Also, don't use a multi-bit precision screw driver set. The magnetic head is too big to insert into the deeper narrow holes.
