I came to the E46M world looking for an E36M convertible... now I see this and I'm like... https://carsandbids.com/auctions/KmZ...m3-convertible... these look like prehistoric versions of the E46M convertible to me.

Nice car, but... the E46M seems like the new and improved version that retained a lot of the classic styling lines (unlike the E9XM and newer) inside and outside, but improved AND modernized (not necessarily the same thing) upon everything from drivetrain to In Car Entertainment (ICE). I would have loved to continue the M striping on the E46M leather seats, however.

Am I the only one who views this that way? I was looking at a 740i short body the other day and thought the same thing, how the E46M looks a lot more like "those" than "these" newer ones.

Honestly, the s52 (esp with m/s50 manifold) was a great engine for the chassis esp back in mid 90s, even 200s when E46 came out.

Fair… I recall rolling in them in the late 90’s… helluva car back then… a close friend had one before his E39M… but it was 2009 by the time I was looking and a V8 M3 seemed like sacrilege to me, especially one with less torque than hp… I couldn’t see the point… the years 2003-2008 completely changed our definitions of “power” and “fast”… at least mine anyway… I bought a Kompressor car which ended pretty much all discussions of a 300hp-ish car being considered fast or powerful.

In a well sorted, well maintained car like my brothers. Puts down more power than a euro gen 1 S50. E36 is much lighter and you can see that underneath the car easily. I definitely appreciate them a lot more.
