He changed that sensor, the oil, the SMG fluid, then I completed the deal and IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT 9 HOURS HOME to FL, getting back at like 3am.

I could have easily been stranded in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. But by my reasoning was the car was mint and open checkbook maintained (I knew from the VMI), if it broke down on me with that low mileage and care (60k then) I bought the wrong car and would have sold it immediately. I still think these are 300k mile cars with proper use and maintenance.

True and just think back to your youth where you were likely driving some hunk of junk (or at least I was) with no GPS, no tools, no cell phone, etc., etc. I remember driving from Alabama to Pennsylvania in the late eighties at 17 in the biggest turd of a car this world has ever seen. Driving through so many middle of nowhere towns as there were far less people at that time.

Those road trips are the best though. I would definitely do that again. We did that when my wife bought her Boxster, drove it from Denver to LA the long way through all the best parts of CO/UT/AZ. Granted that car is really nice, and we did a bunch of maintenance at a local shop right after buying it, but still.

No doubt. I learned what I had bought that 9 hour trip home, just like every other 3+ hour trip home after buying a "new to me" car. I remember when I drove to pick up my wife's Allroad, did the deal, gave her the keys and said "follow me home." We pulled in the garage and she asked, "what is this???".

"That's your car. Enjoy. It's bigger, faster and tougher than almost anything you're going to see on the road. You and the kids should be fine."

"Dad!! It's got heated rear seats!!"

        🤣

These days cars show up on trailers site unseen... it's weird to me. But I just did it with another [non-runner] Allroad 4.2. It had jumped timing, so my guys pulled the engine and got it up and going for a few grand. Car is mint and I'm into it for a few grand + $500.

EDIT… I know most here don’t care for SMG verts, but… https://carsandbids.com/auctions/rkg...m3-convertible … write a check and have a damned good time
