Smallest Spacer Size to Clear BBK in the Front?

    Hello Group,

I am installing 6 piston Brembo’s in the front and need help finding the smallest spacer size to clear the brakes.

Wheel size is 19 x 8.5 ET44 on Indy 500 Firehawks tires 255/35/R19. The tires are a lot wider than OE spec and I plan to swap out all 4 tires for MPS4’s Spring/Summer of 2023. Hoping to save some money and get my BBK installed with the wheel/tire setup as is.

If anyone knows the minimum clearance required to clear Brembo’s for the front given my wheel size and offset, please let me know. I’m on stock suspension / ride height at the moment with stock camber and alignment. My car will be getting alignment done this week so it’s the perfect time for me to play around with the negative camber within my stock limits.

    Thanks in advance

Depends on what wheel it is.

Well he said 19x8.5et44 which only belongs to the CSL front wheel as far as I know.

      I know what's needed to clear 996 brembos, but I don't know about 6pot.

As far as looks, you'd want to run a 15-18mm spacer due to that 44 offset.

my 19x8.5 +35 clears my Brembos but they are only 4 pots.

So, 10mm might work but 15 should be good like tbone mentioned.

I just did a brembo 6 pot with my zcp wheels and it clears using a 15mm spacer...there is a bit of room thiugh, not sure 12mm would fit though

6 pots actually need less clearance than 4 pots.

If you have the ZCP wheel, then I think it'd stand to reason that a 12mm would clear for the CSL spec wheel.

Does your brake kit vendor not have a template that you can download to check wheel clearance? A lot of them have this so you can avoid being in that situation where you have the brakes installed and find out that the wheels do not clear.

Considering that "Brembo 6 pot" could be several different brake systems, you would at least need to specify the rotor size to even get in the ball park of correct information.

That's correct, I believe I had to go with 18mm spacers in the fronts to clear my Brembo 4 pots with ZCP wheels. And it barely clears it.

Thanks for your input and the picture. Calipers look amazing behind the wheels 😍

Based on Ian’s feedback, it sounds like the 4 pistons are slightly thicker than the 6 piston calipers. Are your fronts 19x8 or 8.5? My fronts are slightly wider and my pistons may be a little thinner so I am going to bite the bullet and replace my front tires to OE spec (235’s) and run the 15MM spacer. I’ll report back with clearance pics and details once the install is done.

My pleasure. Fronts are 19x8, the true CSL fronts I believe are 8.5. I'm actually due for replacing rotors and pads. I wanted to try and go with Stoptech rotors for the fronts to try and save some money, but being I have the 380mm kit in the front I'm hearing the hats will not line up properly and have to stay strictly with Brembo rings. 😵

Quick update for this thread. I installed a 15MM spacer in the front and had ample clearance. According to the MM measure stick used to measure brake pad wear, I had 16mm of clearance. I could have run a 3MM spacer and been fine. I swapped out the 15MM with a 5MM spacer as they are readily available and I didn’t want to cut it too close. Overall the clearance is great. Thank you all for your input.

This applies only for OEM CSL wheels running a 6 piston kit in the front. The 6 piston calipers are thinner than 4 piston calipers so you likely need a larger spacer if you’re doing the 996 retrofit (12-15Mm per tbonem3)
