How would importing Slon’s parts work given that he’s in Russia? It would suck to have expensive stuff seized by customs.

The roof on my car is a Slon Workshop roof.

Are you just trying to completely exhaust all possible angles in hopes this product won't work? Or are you asking from a point of genuine curiosity?

Edit: my bad, got tripped up on user names reading from my phone. But I'll leave the comment since there seems to be diverging/opposing viewpoints in this thread!

Not exactly an objective third party. That 18 percent figure cited sounds dubious to me. Maybe the other thread colored my perception toward this guy, but I just do not think it will make a noticeable difference, and it will cost an exorbitant amount.

Bimmerworld's test showed the normal bar does nothing. Since they might lose sales with that information, I believe it. And they posted the data. So, at best this helps from the firewall attachment.
Furthermore, it attaches to the weakest, thinnest part in the center of the firewall. Nothing like the race bracing earlier mentioned, which goes through the sides to the main parts of the chassis. These cars are not that old, and they are fairly rigid. I do not think this will do anything.

But I am not an engineer. I will stop raining on the parade. This is just not for me.

they've mentioned in previous posts that there are different shipping options and that they also had the means to transport and ship from outside of russia if need be

the situation is probably fluid though (which is what's kept me from making an order from them) although they seem to have enough of a presence on this forum at this point to be trusthworthy

The windshield cowl is actually quite stiff as the glass is bonded in and this design primarily adds to the shear load that the glass takes, particularly when in torsion. Glass is very effective in shear at adding stiffness. Triangulating to the cowl is effectively also tying into the A pillars and roof. A big bottom out bump would be the riskiest thing here as it might put a bending load on the cowl/glass (I’d have to look closer, it could be angled enough that it’s also pure shear but I doubt it).

edit2: fun e46 fact: the tourings have bonded glass between the C and D pillars. This combined with their beefier RACP floor is likely why a touring is torsionally stiffer than a sedan or coupe

I’m still personally pretty jazzed over this solution. Very clever.

edit: FBD looks like this, so probably some bending loads going into the glass, as expected. I doubt it’ll be an issue, but I’m not a structural analyst. Force vector in red, constituent shear and moment generating forces in orange, plane of glass in blue. All approx just for visual representation.

Slon just pm'd me a video of them installing the (a?) trunk with good fitment. it didn't include them pulling it from the claimed shipping box though so it could have been another trunk

it would be worthwhile if pawa_k2001 was given the opportunity to give some final words since his thread went off the rails and got locked

Man. You can check on video left front edge cracked. You can ask pavel and im sure he will confirm that this is the same trunk.
but with your mood, looks like even here you can continue with theory, that we cracked on the same edge another "correct" trunk simply for the video.
i think we need to stop it, its offtop here.

didn't try to search pics like that previously, but nice for comparison)
This time e9x chassis (e8x 1 series the same) - all of them have center mount under the windscreen from factory.

For completeness, there is a need to clarify that they tested on their spec built racecar with a 6(+?) point cage and other goodies that go into spec car reinforcements. So I can see a "normal" bar not doing much for a car like that...

                            Youtube DIYs and more

All jobs done as diy - clutch, rod bearings, rear subframe rebush, vanos, headers, cooling, suspension, etc.

PM for help in NorCal. Have a lot of specialty tools - vanos, pilot bearing puller, bushing press kit, valve adjustment, fcab, wheel bearing, engine support bar, etc.

Since I was brought up in this group regarding my Slonik trunk ordeal.. Glad the ordeal is behind me, I didn't see any video on trunk unpackaging nor install, not on the forums often enough to follow that. The cracked trunk fit better than the 2nd trunk, glad neither stayed with me, Karbonius trunk, center console and door panel inserts came in about a week ago, I couldn't be more happy.

This new product looks great, wish Slonik luck but I don't see myself buying one from them due to my previous experience.
