    Good Lead on Fuel Pump

Anyone have good leads on our fuel pump? Are they really $400-500?

For OE, I think the prices went up a few years ago :/ I remember there being a thread about this on the old forums

You can fit a 255lph walbro. Get an installation kit and sleeve with it.

Saw this on another post. The owner used the old fuel pump exterior as a sleeve for the replacement pump.

Did the same thing on an E60 M5 fuel pump, worked great. I bought an M3 pump years ago for when mine goes bad but would definitely consider just putting the walbro in. My M6 will be getting the walbro for sure when it's time.

Is the Walbro good? My cars hitting 20 years old and wanted to refresh the fuel pump for maintenance as it nears 120k.

Yes, no issues, quiet. I reused the sleeve too from the old pump but too much work if an install kit is available.

                Hella fuel pumps on bimmerworld.

I bought the Hella branded pump, no idea if it's a rebranded china pump but it solved my 2nd crank issue that I lived with for years.

The quality of plastic seemed the same as the original pump I pulled out just shiny new.

Same with me. Been running well for a few months now. $99 bucks hard to pass up even as an experiment!

the fuel level sender electronics seemed to be different than OE but so far it works great. Also, comparing to a 21 year old pump… so you never know the OE pump could have received the same revisions.

Just found out my 300,000 km M3 needs a new pump - I get 12V at the connector for a couple seconds when turning key to ON, then constantly while cranking.

I didn't even think to check Bimmerwolrd since I started buying from ECS and FCPEuro ages ago. $99 sounds dirt cheap for a complete assembly, and Hella is a common OE.

Any reason to consider the Walbro at twice the price just for the pump itself? Also, I'm guessing the lack of check valve is irrelevant because of the automatic priming?

How about the Deatschwerks - I guess 255 is stock equivalent? Never heard of them, and the Hella seems like a better deal and simpler RE/RE with less time for fuel vapors to soak into the interior while changing.

I have an used OE unit for sale - 100K miles but fully functional. PM if interested...

Anecdotal evidence but my Hella pump failed in less than 10k miles.

I'm using the DW in the stock housing now solely to avoid a "fake" Walbro.

Fitted a Walbro with a sleeve to my car as preventative maintenance recently, but I now need 2 start attempts as it will just turn on the starter on the first attempt after sitting for a while. It'll always start right up on the 2nd attempt no matter how long I turned it on the first. I imagine there's no check valve with the Walbro and the pressure drops whilst it sits, I don't get the feeling there's an automatic priming process so I'm tempted to get the fuel pump assembly out again and fit an external check valve just after the pump.

                            Regards

That's a little inconvenient. I guess the automatic priming when you first turn the key isn't enough. Have you tried double priming by turning the key to on, wait for the pump to stop, then off and back to on and then start?
