I've reached out to 3 or 4 shops but haven't heard back from any yet. Haven't heard back from the GM5 guy either.

But I love this car, and having two vehicles has come in really handy in the past. It's a tough choice as I really want to keep this car.
Completely understand, definitely feel for you, hope you’re able to find a legit mechanic closeby so you can keep the M3 forever.

If you're referring to ScottGM5, I would suggest sending him an email. He responded to me after one business day, you can also try calling his number as well.

Check out Gunbarrel Import Motors in Niwot, CO. They did a PPI for me once and they were pretty great. I never had them work on my car, but they seemed competent.

I'd try and get a quote to ship the car to KS or even George in Austin. It might be cheaper than you think. I used a broker and shipped my broken M3 with a blown engine from Milwaukee to Wichita for $500.

Then just drive it back. If that's the case, its worth the money, time, and effort to get the job done right and thoroughly.

I paid $1,500 for just labor back in 2021 when I bought my car in MD. Can't remember how much parts were but definitely >$1k. Probably much more these days with this crazy inflation

Like Obidian mentioned study the instructions of how to do it, call some shops and ask if you can rent their lift for a day, and then buy the tools and parts.

Not sure rod bearing are where I'd begin my journey of working on cars.

There has to be a shop in Denver you can bring it to. Only 4 hours away. I used to know a guy but he has since passed away. There seemed to be a healthy //M community there.

I have no experience with them, but I know a couple people in Denver that have had Big Mission Automotive do their Rod Bearings and Vanos system.

+1 for Jason at Big Mission in Palmer Lake which is about an hour south of Denver. They’re very familiar with the E46 platform and more specifically S54s.

They did the bearings on my Silver Grey car.

How much did they charge you to do the Rod Bearings?

Big Mission is only 4.5hrs away - just sent them a message through their site. Also asked about the VANOS since I don't know if it needs any work or anything.

You need to make friends with someone who has a garage and tools. Or break into one of those barns where they store the snow plows in the summer and do it in there lol.
