Wishful thinking on my part. Would need to happen in Section 1 then - there should be room to equalize it on the passenger side for US cars, ill have to look under there again on the weekend.

Here's a video of someone trying to investigate the sound impact of the section 1 on the exhaust tone. Saclam seems to be the original manufacturer of this style section 1 that others are deriving on now.

(Jump to 16:18 if time stamp doesn't work).

Video is in German, but auto generated/translated subtitles will get you 85% of the way there if you need them. Or you can just skip around the video to the sound bites.

TL;DR is: He heard this exhaust and thought it was awesome so he sourced a used one. He originally has Friedrich section 2 and 3 on the car with OEM section 1 and headers I believe, then swaps in the OEM section 2 with the Saclam section 3, and then adds the Saclam section 1 with the big bend. Concluding that the section 1 really is the difference maker. In his opinion it sounds better in the end, but isn't quite what he was expecting, not exactly like the car he heard that made him want it in the first place.

Hey Bryson - are you able to measure the difference in length from the merge on each bank for the US headers via CAD?

I can but it would require modeling the post-merge part of the headers, which I wasn't planning to do..

Okay, the number is around 235mm or 9.25"

I'm not going to let this die because it's something I've thought about for the entire 15 years I've owned this car.

But I would argue that even the bimmerworld race exhaust sounds better, and more like every other BMW NA inline 6. What it has in common with every swapped car I've seen is a single exhaust setup instead of the dual setup that we have.

(skip to 6:20 if it doesn't start there)

I've never heard my car, or any other for that matter, from the outside with the supersprint resonated x pipe, but maybe that's doing most of the work in my setup and not the CPI rasp terminator?

I haven't kept real close track of header development, but aren't the ARH headers supposed to be equal length? From the vids I've seen they still have some rasp, and if equalizing length was the most important factor I would think doing it at the header would be ideal? I've seen some vids which do show some improvement on the S55 with equal lengths, but I wouldn't say it completely fixes the issue.

I'm not smart enough to understand what would be going on that makes the single pipe solution work, but maybe that's the key? Perhaps it's a packaging issue and to get a single pipe diameter large enough to flow the same as two 2.5'' you run into clearance issues? Even if it cost me 5hp, that's a price I'd be happy to pay to get the iconic BMW I6 sound.

Hey everyone! I installed this piece this last week and I love how the car sounds now. For reference my setup is as follows: megan headers, Rogue Equal Length Section 1, OEM section 2, Custom section 3 ( Straight through design muffler with better Aero Resonators).

One thing i will note is that the section one does contact the underbody so you'll have to wedge something in there to prevent vibration. I used heat wrap and wedge it between thr pipe and the heatshield. I'm not complaining though because then pipes are tucked up high, I can use the oem plastic pieces, and this is the sound I've been chasing for years.

I have a sound clip but haven't loaded it anywhere other than the m3 Facebook group lol. I'll try to get a link or something.

Video would be awesome! Not sure if you can take some pictures of how it touches the car…? I’m very interested in getting this if fitment is livable and the sound is improved

I also fitted it, and think it sounds awesome.

euro headers - rogue el sec 1 - super sprint y pipe - dinan muffler

no drone but man it screams above 3k rpm. Perfect noise volume for me if maybe a little loud at full chat. And I do not like loud exhausts. Very little to no rasp. Love it.

I am not really set up for that but I will see what is possible. At a minimum some revs

the single resonated y pipe version

i also have a turner csl airbox
