Weird tapping noise, pretty sure its not VANOS

Hi everyone! My car developed this weird tapping noise from the timng chain area on the intake side recently. I originally thought it was the valve shims but after completing them I still hear a noise while turning the motor over. The VANOS on the car was done ~10k miles ago and the upper chain tensioner was done ~1k ago. It sounded very similar to this car when it was running but I don't have a video of my car: https://youtu.be/mY-toVFeEFQ. If anyone's experienced anything similar, please let me know!!

How long has the engine oil been in there ?

splined shaft bearing axial play / worn diaphragm springs or worse,

Your sprocket sleeve bolts are loose or snapped (07-12-9-905-536)

Your shop should honour that as a warranty job, i would take it back

I still hear a noise while turning the motor over.

From the noise when manual rotating the engine, I think you need to open the VC and look, something catching the chain in the chain cover.

BTW, 13 hrs to replace a bunch of vanos parts is too much, for $100/hr

No new Exhaust Sprocket Hub either ? Broken Tab ?

Oil pump disk could still be reused with new holes or not ? So core charge should of been refunded ?

Could of just swapped it out for an enitre new core that beisan offers, would of saved labour and you would of gotten a new soleniod pack

Oil was changed when the VANOS was done, rod bearings were done at the same time. I've attached the whole invoice. This was done by the previous owner thankfully so I didn't pay these rates haha. I also did engine oil less than 4k miles ago and was going to do it right after the valve shims.

Check tha the rocker arm retainers are not contacting anything, also inspect valve springs for any that may have cracked. I don’t thinkE VANOS would make any noise by torning the angine by hand. I would also check that the old chain guide did not break and a piece was left down there. If the noise coming from the top of may it be low down? Could also be any of the other chain guides

Sorry but none of these parts can cause the noise when OP rotated the engine slowly in one direction.

Seated or not it can't cause the continuous noise while turning the crank 360.

You can't see the lower chain guide condition until the cam sprockets are removed and then look down.

I couldn't figure the problem out, ended up trailering to a close friend's shop. The noise disappeared after trailering, it was run for almost an hour. I feel like it'll be back but not much I can do about it for now.
