Least I can do!
I know this forum is the type of place where people have disposable income, I imagine a few people have been on the fence, maybe a couple bucks off helps someone pull the trigger.
A 40AH battery is around 15lbs, that's a massive weight saving from stock.2004 Dinan S3-R M3

I'm curious what the implied alternatives might be. My Optima Red Top is going on 13 years old and I'll need a new one soon. I've been drinking the Antigravity Kool-Aid but if there are cheaper alternatives that accomplish the same goal, paint me interested.Originally posted by bigjae46 View PostStill, $800 for a 14.5lb battery considering where battery tech is nowadays? IMO, still in the ridonkulous range for the poor people like me.
I have one of these 24lb ones in a racecar with a high compression V8 and it's survived: https://www.odysseybattery.com/produ...attery-pc925l/
EDIT: I have been casually looking at these too: https://www.bimmerworld.com/OPTIMA-Q...ttery-BMW.html

OK, so... that is essentially the same thing as this, without the restart technology.
Antigravity H6/Group-48 Hi-Power lightweight Lithium Automotive Battery with RESTART Technology. Replace lead/acid battery in Hi-Performance Cars.
Now, I do believe that for lithium they only come in 40 / 60 / 80ah packs, so when you see an odd number like that, they're stretching numbers. In fact, when antigravity says their battery only has 30AH, it's actually a 40AH they just underrated. So that is probably a 40Ah that Optima is rating at 45AH.
Would that work? Almost definitely. But the restart technology is most certainly worth it. One of the guys on the X3 forum posted this.
I know Optima has been around for awhile, but IDK that I'd trust their emerging LiPO tech until they figure a few things out.2004 Dinan S3-R M3

There really is no point in running a lithium battery to save weight in a street car. With some simple maintenance, an AGM battery can last 5 years.Originally posted by Casa de Mesa View Post

For performance purposes, I'd imagine you want the lightest battery possible that will start the car knowing that you may need to jump it in colder conditions. I will agree that the remote jump start feature is cool but...unless you are off-roading or in some sort of multi-stage rally I can't imagine a situation where jump starting the car would not be an easy option.
For me...living in TX I am willing to jump start the car in sub 45 degree conditions. It takes just one jump in the morning and then it fires up as long as the oil doesn't fully cool to ambient. The battery weighs less than 2lbs, costs $300, and being lithium iron, it doesn't fall under the restrictions that most sanctioning bodies have.
In the end, I see the main advantage of an anti-gravity battery being the remote jump start feature.

Got it. You're basically running a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower battery for a dedicated track car
To offer up a counterpoint, I see every reason to reduce weight in any vehicle you care about driving dynamics, even if it's "just" a street car. I'm totally following your logic for street car needs vs wants, but man, I've taken about 200-250lbs out of my street-only M3 and it's made a huge difference in every possible way.Build thread: Topaz Blue to Shark Blue

Idk what all this back and forth is about. New standard batteries are shit these days..those bastards don’t last like they used to. They’re also heavy as fuck and a PITA to move around + have the potential to leak + require meticulous care to get them to last more than 2-3 years.
Seriously, if you’re a lazy and cheap fuck like me who hates lugging around 50 lb batteries just get the 6 lb Antigravity ATX-30 for $350 shipped, battery posts for $10, and 3D print the bracket I linked for $20. Unless maybe you’re rocking accessories that require a lot of juice…my only aftermarket accessories are dashcam and Avin Avant 4. Can daily the car with zero problems, can let it sit without a charger for two weeks before it requires a “jump start,” and the “jump start” is literally just pushing the restart button.

I've never had a standard battery quit after 2 or 3 years. Not once. Not now, not in the past. The battery I just pulled out my GT Mustang was the original Motorcraft and just short of 8 years old.
With all that said, I've noticed on forums (not just this one) a lot of guys complaining about their standard battery not surviving very long. Perhaps they don't have a garage.3.91 | CMP Subframe & RTAB Bushings | SMG (Relocated & Rebuilt) | ESS Gen 3 Supercharger | Redish | Beisan | GC Coilovers & ARCAs | Imola Interior | RE Rasp | RE Diablo | Storm Motorwerks Paddles | Will ZCPM3 Shift Knob | Apex ARC-8 19x9, 19x9.5 | Sony XAV-AX5000 | BAVSOUND | CSL & 255 SMG Upgrades | Tiag | Vert w/Hardtop

I guess I've had good luck with batteries too.
FWIW SQ13 that battery is now $449. That said, I somehow missed your entire post. I like that option.Build thread: Topaz Blue to Shark Blue

I have to admit, the "no point on a street car" comments really irk me haha. It's all subjective. I went with Li primarily to save weight on a street car haha. It's just one part to a whole.2006 E46 M3 Interlagos Blue ZCP SlicktopBuild Thread: https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/m...6-m3-ownership

SQ13 or anyone else running the ATX30 or similar. You're not having any issues running electrical components?
I'm thinking about high electrical load conditions where the radio, headlights, electric fan, defroster, heater/AC blower fan on high, etc. are all on at once. I know this is a rarer condition, but if it's raining it becomes a more valid use case.
In the ATX30 description, Antigravity has this to say:
The HD version (ATX30-HD) seems like it might be a better fit for the street car use case given the higher reserve capacity. For folks that run multi-day rallies, having a higher reserve capacity for vampire draws (factory alarm, ECU memory, etc.) feels like the safer bet maybe...(?)- Not for use in Automotive applications. Contact us for potential use in “Race Only” Automotive applications.
- Please check our HD version, or our Lithium Automotive Batteries when more power and capacity is needed.

No issues, but I don’t think I’ve put the car thru high electrical load conditions? Recently had the following running without any problems: Avin Avant 4, dash cam, headlights, defroster, heater running with speed at around halfway mark. Idk if my electric fan turned on at any point during this…it’s running off the wiring for the AUX fan.Originally posted by Casa de Mesa View PostSQ13 or anyone else running the ATX30 or similar. AG will not recommend the ATX to most customers for CYA reasons/avoid the hassle of clueless people complaining. But if you’re smart about it and have reasonable expectations then they said it’s fine.Last edited by SQ13; 02-15-2026, 01:46 PM.
