I used to be OCD about my car, but ~15 years ago I realized how much more fun the car is if you aren't. Now it gets washed 1-2 times a year, kid goes in the back, tires go in the back, dog goes in the back, car goes to the track, does hardware store run... and I actually drive the thing routinely.

I'm careful about things that actually damage it (salt, car washes), but keeping it perfect makes me enjoy it less. So, I don't.

At some point it probably won't be legal to drive it, so what am I saving it for? Get the experience now, while I still can.

Same, I'm not sitting around counting swirl rings like I'm age dating an old tree. However, I do keep mine very clean, just not over the top.

There's something to be said about this mentality.

At the end of the day, "it's just a car" right?

I think some of us just have the 'tism a bit more than others.

That's because you enjoy the driving part of the experience the most. Folks like Matt clearly enjoy the in the garage part the most.

I'd argue he's primarily into it to promote his business

it's the modern influencer template, you build the persona first and whatever product you peddle sells itself.

I am sure it's a spectrum. I hate driving a dirty car. Then again, I haven't washed the X3M since November. I am not ripping my hair out. Now that the weather is nice, I'll get back into it. I actually enjoy the process. I am outside, I am doing something with the car. What else I am going to do, cut my grass? No thanks haha.

                        Sold my 997.2 GT3 and 993 C2S and bought a 165k mile E46 M3 and couldn’t be happier driving it every day.
There wasn’t a place I wouldn’t / didn’t take either of those but it’s certainly a liberating feeling to not care that much anymore.

                          That's wild.

                          But it's true.

                              Sobering post... and probably true.

                              Great advice.

Half-assed is not in my vocabulary.... Maybe I'm a bit OCD myself lol.

I can't wait to see your car finished up!

Matt has half assed plenty of things especially when it comes to paint correction so I wouldn’t really use him as an example. Did you mean someone who really suffers from ocd or the kind that Matt pretends to be?
