Which csl airbox to buy?

Dumb question...if I have an MSS54HP DME then I can load a stock CSL tune, install the Karbonius airbox and then go? Or do I still need a MAP sensor?

CSL tune you need a map sensor, alpha n tune you do not.

how does having an intake impact CA smog? how do you pass it yearly?

You can't - - even if you found a place that will turn a blind eye to the visual, the CSL MAP DME cannot communicate w/ state emissions computers. Have to keep the stock bits and just swap out every two years.

Perform the same test with a group of potential airbox buyers and I don't think you'll get the same result. Carbon airbox versus CAI, sure.

It's a shame that M3Forums shut down...some of the members here just don't understand the pedigree of some members. NZ_M3 has been around for a long time and knows quite a bit about the csl airbox and all its variants. He's posted extensively on it on the old forum. I'm not sure what you're on about to categorically say that they all sound the same when carbon thickness clearly has an affect on the sound. OE and Karbonius definitely have a different tone. Whether its small or large, the difference is perceptible. You arguing otherwise does not negate my experience or that of NZ_M3 and other well established members on the subject. But you do you boo

Def true, NZ_M3 put a lot of effort comparing in detail on an old m3F thread. One of the few guys I remember with the actual OEM airbox.

I've heard a VAC, OE, Karbonius V# and Evolve, and there was not a significant enough difference in sound to make me buy one over the other (with the exception of build quality). For me, it's a S54 with a carbon airbox and that's what is important for sound. You don't agree and that's ok bud.

I think the difference is little to none (effectively the same in most cases) and you think the opposite. If you are going to drill down on the fact that I said "the same" initially and didn't add "more or less" to it, be my guest.

Unless the carbon layers are significantly thicker/thinner on one versus the other (or opening location/size), any difference in the perception of sound is anecdotal at best. For all intents and purposes, they probably do sound the same to 90% of buyers, even with differences in construction.

i've been told my oe box sounds louder than an evolve box but have not personally heard any others besides OE

the perception of sounds and tones in general is pretty subjective because everyone hears a little bit differently for whatever reason. Hell, there are people here that will tell you a SS race muffler is not a loud exhaust
