If the two part numbers are the same pipes, why do the prices differ by $100?

Where's alpinerider when you need him?
If the 044012 is cheaper, then why is this even a discussion, just buy that one.DD: /// 2011.5 Jerez/bamboo E90 M3 · DCT · Slicktop · Instagram

Here's 044912 again, show me where you think it tapers down:
I already tried to show you by offering the link to the SS website for the Z4M though?
Let me try again...
044912 is a Z4M specific part and, per Supersprint themselves, necks down to 60mm. Their website CLEARLY shows this but you are quite busy believing you are correct instead of looking for the information to support your claims about correct diameter.
Have a look at how clearly states at the top that 044912 (Z4M) necks down to 60mm. I may not be an expert but I would hazard to guess that Supersprint is downright positive of what they are producing under what part number...
I, like you, run 044012 (shown here) on my car. That piece clearly does NOT neck down and its a full 63.5mm and we can both say this from personal experience.
Here are the links to both pages on the SS website should you care to investigate further.
Performance sport exhaust for BMW Z4 M, BMW Z4 M Roadster / Coupè 3.2i (mod. USA) '06 -> '08, BMW M, exhaust systems
Performance sport exhaust for BMW E46 M3, BMW E46 M3 3.2i Coupé/Cabrio '01 -> (USA Model Ø63, 5mm), BMW M, exhaust systems
Look, I had no clue this part existed until the other day. Not knowing about something doesn't make it any less real though. So there you go, pics from SS with part numbers, prices and pipe diameter.

Hmm. I'm not convinced that 044912 goes from 63.5mm to 60mm. A very similar part (789812) is listed under 60mm. It even looks like the picture for 789812 is the same exact picture as 044912 but with the stock style clamps photoshopped in.
I think what is actually happening is that 044912 is 60mm throughout, but is meant to be mated to SSV1s, which are 63.5mm, hence being listed under 63.5mm -> 60mm. I guess there's technically a step down from 63.5mm headers to a 60mm section 1, but it looks like this step happens are their mating point and not inside the section 1. Not sure why this part even exists if the 63.5mm section 1 can mate to 60mm section 2 just fine.
Edit: I overlaid the two images on top of each other. It's pretty clear that they are the same image with the 789812 being a photoshopped version of the 044912.

2. Why the fuck are we arguing about a z4m part? This is an m3 forum where we all have m3s and would buy a pipe for an m3 not a z4m.
3. Why would you ruin your 2.5" headers by buying a 2.36" pipe? Just buy the m3 pipe.

2. You should go back and read the question about 044912 instead of trying so goddamn hard to be right when you haven't been, even for a second, THE WHOLE TIME. The question was about a link to 044912 on ECS being correct for our cars since it stated it necked down to 60mm instead of being the full 63.5mm. While it technically isn't made for our car, it will fit V1 Stepped. DiscoWagon explained that ECS isn't allowed to sell decat pipes. That is why he found 044912 on ECS instead of 044012 which can be purchased through Turner. ECS will sell you a suboptimal part for a complete system just to get the sale. Not the most honest business move on their part but it's not their fault if you don't do your homework. I mean hell, they aren't going to sell V1 Stepped and not offer the mandatory section 1 that fits in some form or fashion if they have any option at all.
3. Nobody has advocated for using the smaller diameter pipes, and nobody cares why they offer it all. Again, slow down and you would see that part of all of this. It's only ever been about why 044912 even exists/does it neck down.Last edited by nervous24; 06-12-2020, 02:33 PM.2003.5 Carbon Black ///M3 @_weaponM

Just looked at realoem for the Z4M. Their section two has flanges that are clocked differently to ours. This is why both 789812 and 044912 exist. Judging by the labeling on the SS website, they're both 60mm. But it doesn't matter since neither part will mate up to our section 2 anyway. Even ECS only lists the Z4 as compatible.
Basically, if you own an M3 don't buy 044912 or 789812 since they're made for a Z4.2002 Topasblau M3 - Coupe - 6MT - Karbonius CSL Airbox - MSS54HP Conversion - Kassel MAP - SSV1 - HJS - PCS Tune - Beisan - MK60 Swap - ZCP Rack - Nogaros - AutoSolutions - 996 Brembos - Slon - CMP - VinceBar - Koni - Eibach - BlueBus - Journal

This is a website for M3s. I might pretend to be an expert on M3, but I'm not going to know about some special part only for z4ms.DD: /// 2011.5 Jerez/bamboo E90 M3 · DCT · Slicktop · Instagram

I just picked one of these up. Slowly replacing the cobbled together x-piped straight pipes rasp maker that came with my car from the prior owner.
Question. What are the 4 small plates with 2 holes in them that come with the hardware kit?
Haven't tried installing this yet so I'm hoping I magically figure it out once I get the pipes under the car...Build thread: Topaz Blue to Shark Blue

My pipes clear those two chassis braces fine. It is the trans cross member, that is the issue. You are spacing down the mounting of the exhaust hangers, so you can clear the section one from the trans crossmember. So I had to use it for the exhaust hanger brace, that made it so that I had to use them for the non hanger brace.2003 Carbon Black - Karbonious CSL intake, CSL DME w/MAP, SSV1 headers/Catted Section1/63.5mm Section2, Shrick 280/272 cams, Lang Racing Stage 1 cylinder head, Eibach Pro Street S Coilovers (500#F/600#R), GC Sways, AutoSolutions SSK, Motorsport 3.91 rear diff, BBS RGR wheels, Streamline CSL front bumper
