Tell you this. Car pulls so cleanly and idles so smoothly I seriously doubt the valves need adjustment. But at 80k I gotta do it I guess.

Depends on what brand gaskets were usedOriginally posted by Matty088 View PostHe said it was fine
what do you all think of the price of 480. I am not really too sure how this guys prices are. I feel like I save some times. And other times I don’t. I’d say this time I didn’t.

I would do this + remove/install cam sleeve bolts with Loctite for $480 when I was a poor college kid.Originally posted by Matty088 View PostHe said it was fine

Did you have the cam sleeve bolts removed and Loctite? This is even more important than valve adjustment.

You shouldn't feel any difference after valve adjustment. But if ignore then major damages like burned valves (not enough clearance) or worn rocker followers (too much clearance) will happen.Originally posted by Matty088 View PostTell you this. On the topic of gasket manufacturer, is valve cover the only one where genuine is recommended? (BTW, I have the same experience with non-OEM VCGs on my Audi).Originally posted by eacmen View PostYou need everything pictured here but I would only buy the Genuine BMW Valve Cover gasket:

For anything other than the valve cover gasket Elring is fine.
If the tech doesn't have a shim kit you will need to get those as well:

I am looking at oil pan sump cover and oil pan gaskets. Is Victor Reinz OK for the sump pump cover from FCP?2006 BMW M3 ZCP

My basic approach is that if the labor involved to install the seal/gasket is alot then just use Genuine part. The one exception is the VCG, which is easy to replace but all the non-Genuine ones seem to leak. I havent had issues with other gaskets from Elring, VR, etc.Originally posted by eljay View PostOn the topic of gasket manufacturer, is valve cover the only one where genuine is recommended? Genuine OE BMW valve cover gasket is Viton rubber from what I understood from the Beisan directions, meaning it's lifetime. I don't think you actually need to replace it for a good long time ("lifetime" might be 100k miles though), and all but two of the small valve cover grommets are Viton as well. Personally I buy all gaskets as OE from now on -- I've had too many shitty Elring & Victor Reinz & etc gaskets blow out on my S52, and life is too short. I don't know if the aftermarket companies would make it out of the same Viton rubber that BMW specs for their genuine stuff.Originally posted by eacmen View Post

The OEM gasket still gets brittle. Buy it once from FCP and get there lifetime warrantyOriginally posted by r4dr View Post
