Hey Liam, Any resolution to this?

I just did the swap, with a 701 clutch switch, coded with reverse lights mirror tilt working. But now every once and a while will stall coming to a light in neutral.

    Thanks

Yes, I did get it fixed. The problem was I didn't have the "cruise switch" which connects into X60002 / PIN 20 on the DME. You can confirm correct operation of the switch in INPA by going to E46 > Engine > MSS54 for S54 > Read Status > Digital 1 > Status Grip Switch. The status should be off with the clutch out, and on with the clutch in. If it's just ON all the time, like it was for my car, it would randomly stall coming to lights.

Because whoever swapped my car used a pre-2001 clutch master cyl which didn't have the mounting for the switch, I ended up using BMW part 61318363710 "BMW Clutch Pedal Switch", which looks and mounts just like the brake switch.

There is a bunch of chat about in this thread: https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/m...-out-at-lights

      Hopefully, that helps!

Awesome! That is the 1 wire I did not connect so this sounds promising!

Bumping a thread from the dead.

Hey Liam - I know it's been a while since you fixed this issue. What did you do with the 4th wire/pin (burgundy block) for the harness lead? Did you end up pinning it into the EWS or leaving it out? I do not want to mess with the EWS or implement a lockout feature.

This thread suggests Pin 4 can be omitted if one is not installing the EWS stater lockout feature. Wanted to check with you and confirm. Thanks in advance.

So my clutch switch I'm using, 61318363710, is a 3-pin switch, not the newer fancy 4-pin like all the 2001+ models. It connects to power, ground, and X60002 / PIN 20 on the DME. That's it. My EWS starter lockout feature has been disabled, so I don't need to press the clutch to start the car.

If you have a newer 4-pin style, the 4th pin goes to the EWS X1659 pin 8. (Note that pin 8 has nothing in it if your car was an SMG, so you'll need a new pin for the connector)

              So to recap:

Pin 1 = Br/Sw (Brown w/Black stripe) -> Ground (tap into the brake light switch on the pedal box that has the same wiring colors)
              Pin 2 = Bl/Br (Blue w/Brown Stripe) -> Pin 20 @ DME x60002
Pin 3 = Vi/Ge (Violet w/Yellow Stripe) -> 12V (tap into the brake light switch on the pedal box which has the same wire colors)
Pin 4: Bl/Sw (Blue w/Black Stripe) -> Pin 8 in EWS (white box in the upper left-hand side of driver's footwell. Pin 8 is empty)

If you have a 3-pin clutch switch as I did or you don't want to wire in pin-4, you need to code out the EWS starter lockout feature.

Thank you, Liam. There’s no documentation I can find for that EWS pin 8 tap. I saw it in a YouTube video and wanted to confirm. I’ll let my shop know.

                Thanks again!

                    Hi Liam
I just finished the conversion SMG to 6M, got the vehicle codded I have the correct clutch switch part # 61-31-9-122-700 my cruise control works and the vehicle starts only when the clutch pedal is depressed. I did not install the gear identification sensor and the vehicle was codded just with the clutch switch module pin 2 going to the DME pin 20 at X60002 connector, and pin 4 from the clutch switch module is wired into the EWS pin 8. Car runs good when cold but as it warms up to temp. it stalls as I come to a stop and the gas pedal is sluggish. (I checked the signal with INPA and confirm correct operation of the switch by going to E46 > Engine > MSS54 for S54 > Read Status > Digital 1 > Status Grip Switch. The status was off with the clutch out, and on with the clutch in)
Any thoughts on why my engine is stalling when I come up to a stop? Thanks for your time.

hrmm interesting. My car was stalling when coming to a a stop was caused by the "grip switch" (i.e. the pin 20@dme x60002 not being there) but you have verified at least the wiring is correct for that with the digital readout in INPA. It also could be a vacuum leak somewhere after the MAF.

I'd probably ask terra , and see if he has any thoughts on the coding side of things that might cause this.

I had a local shop do the coding after the conversion so I can't comment on the process but they want me to take the vehicle back so they will look and validate to make sure they did not miss anything. I will take the vehicle back to the shop soon.

Thanks for responding Liam. I got in touch with the shop that codded the vehicle, they want to look at the vehicle again to make sure they got everything done right. After the conversion the vehicle drove and ran ok no stalling just in limp mode so I don't think I had or have any vacuum leaks. I probably drove the vehicle 25-30 miles before I got it codded, it never stalled and it idle just like it always did. Once it was codded it ran good no more limp mode and cruise control worked but it has the stalling issue when I come to a stop and the throttle is not responsive when the stalling happens.. It starts right up and runs ok for a while and then it stalls again as I approach a stop or slow down. Anyway I will take it back for a second validation/verification soon hopefully they can figure it out. A few more questions on the coding, just out of curiosity and to be able to understand the meaning of the parameters that need to be edited, the K_S_GANG_LL_ED 0x802A 0x01 0x02 is the gear recognition being removed (not in series anymore with the clutch module signal) so the DME is only relying on the clutch module signal to disengage the cruise control. One of the other 2 values below as I understand is (one deletes the error codes associated with the gear recognition sensor) and the other is ??? what exactly?
                            Thanks again.

Did a little more research and found what the 2 edits in the software will change but still trying to figure out the third edit? I found the info in the link below.

it’s quite simple to take a look at dme and also to check if smg was coded out. tons of good info on here, e46 fanatics, and m3cutters.

i took my car to Lins to have subframe reinforced..but also asked them to look into car stalling and they didn’t find out why the car stalls (conversion paid for by PO to have Solo Motorsports do the work)…im sure they didnt even attempt to look into it…and i actually like Wayne and Vlad. if you are relying on them to find out, it won’t get fixed. i cant tell you how many atl-local e46 m3 owners i’ve talked to in the past month who have incomplete smg-to-6spd conversions done in ATL.

most shops unfortunately just want to quote you, and finish the job in less time than what was billed/estimated. let me know after you get your back from Lins and it stalls again, i can offer some help on my findings
