Probably only makes sense in Glasurit's catalogue 🤷

88Z is the colour code for the wheels (refer to the email from BBS in post 18 of this thread).

It is essentially a car manufacturer (VW/Porsche) alloy wheel colour code and can be used to buy paint which matches the wheels from factory.

The problem with this however, is that if you ask a wheel refurb company to refinish your wheels using 88Z paint, they will most likely inform you that they do not know the tinters to get an exact match.

Also, wheel refurb outfits usually recommend powder coating over paint from a durability perspective and should have a colour which is similar to the original BBS finish.

I had mine refurbed a couple of years ago - faces in a colour called ‘Platinum’ and barrels in grey primer. My wheels had not been refurbed previously and I can confirm that they came out a 98% match.

Mind sharing some pics of the wheels? To clarify, for your refurb, did you do powder or paint? If powder - who mfg the powder?

You can get close with paint but I haven’t seen a powder that comes close. All the finishes done by powdercoating look one-dimensional and dull.

          1. Powder coated
          2. No idea who manufactured the powder
          3. Having seen the original BBS CSL wheels finish, I can assure you that the refurbed finish is a 98% match (which is good enough for me and I am picky). The only close up picture I have of the wheels when they were freshly done is the one previously provided. Car is also in storage now and won’t be with it for quite some time…

AWE46M3 I had the car out of storage on the weekend and have taken a few pictures of the wheels.

Note, they were refurbished around two and a half years ago and have covered ~15,000 miles (including a few track days), which has resulted in a few minor chips.

Wow that does look extremely close. It has the signature blue shimmer when the light hits it

Unfortunately it still doesn't help us because since you don't know the exact powder paint code/manufacturer other than a generic name of platinum, nobody can replicate that lol

It's good that you got it done though and very lucky for you 😆

Ive been very satisfied with alloy wheel repair specialists here in austin. They have outfits nationwide- cant speak for those but at least the one local to me can replicate both style 65 and 163m finishes quite well

By far the best refinish I’ve seen for these wheels.

I can’t believe this is powder coat. Any chance you could give them a call to look your order up and confirm the mfg and code for the powder they used?

Very good to know, they are in Nebraska as well, I may have them paint my Sportline 8S's, they have a somewhat dull finish from factory but otherwise pretty nice CSL rep.

Does it have the blue shimmer / undertones? Hard to tell from this lighting.

I guess? Heres another pic but not sure if the blue here is due to the sky.

Mine were beginning to peel so I went with the duplicolor hypersilver kit for the time being.

figured i'd post - won't be the long-term solution but happy with the results considering how they looked before.
