Why do some people prefer the broomstick E46 M3 shift knob over the ZHP shift knob

25117836906 is found on the Z4M and is not weighted.

FCP had the E39 M5 shift knob for $280 a week ago. If I needed a replacement for the E46 to match the factory one, I would swapped the E46 boot frame to the M5 shift knob boot for a pretty cost-effective setup.

Didn’t realize I hadn’t posted pn. This legit weighted gooseneck illuminated?

There are no weighted illuminated gooseneck knobs.

You pick one or the other.

The reduction in weight is to make space for the illumination.

you still have not posted the part number. But the previous page of posts are pretty clear on PNs.

Ok thanks for the clarification. I’m just getting into mods for this baby I’ve had for 13 years.Been a master tech for almost 30 years but no jack about my own BMW.

Yes, the M5 kob is very nice, but it's basically an illuminated ZHP, which is the short knob. Our sticky getrag is really helped with a taller knob like the M Performance one many of us have (ending in 884).

Went to the ubiquitous ZHP design with illumination (F10). Color match is good and there is something about the ZHP stubby design that is a BMW design hallmark

Thanks for all the replies, think I’m going for the weighted gooseneck and delete the illumination. Dying to know what the throw feels like.

There's a bushing upgrade that helps with shifter fell/precision, but it's not an easy job like popping a new knob on.

The knob alone might not make a huge difference, but a new knob, new bushings (carrier [delrin] and shift joint) and new fluid, and maybe even a dssr, is an upgrade for sure!

Ordered now I just need a set of euro headers and I think beyond a possible tune I think that’ll be it for mods.
