recently rebuilt started knocking on first start up. I did not rebuild the bottom end. Going to pull it out over the weekend and inspect.

Is that metal in the oil? Something is definitely wrong. I would pull the oil pan and check on the bearings.

What does "recently rebuilt" mean? What exactly was replaced?

It sounds a bit fast for a bottom end issue. Here is a video to compare where I recall the owner forgot to torque down one of the connecting rods -

Yeah I think you're right. Definitely too fast for the bottom end.

OP can you pinpoint where the noise is coming from with a stethoscope? Metal in the oil is definitely concerning, but I'm not sure what it could be coming from besides the bearings.

Engine was idling at 1200 in the video I posted. Would a faster noise mean it’s coming from the head??

Post #1 doesn't reconcile to components referenced in post #5. Was the bottom end disassembled and all components reused?

Edit: I probably mis-read. You said "I didn't rebuild" and now I assume that means someone else did.

Camshafts turn half the speed of the crankshaft. Kinda sounds like something is rubbing. Cam/timing chain?

Could be. Will note though. Before it actually ran, I was having some starting problems (aem related) and it would run for 2 seconds and . As soon as it fired up even for a second the knock was there.

Im curious about the timing chain guides being worn/loose

The bolts holding my driver's side timing chain guide sheared, meaning the guide was completely loose inside the engine. There was definitely a rattle, but it was only really present at about 3000 rpm and sounded very similar to a VANOS rattle. At idle, the car sounded like everything was perfectly fine.
