What sound insulation is present on regular M3s but not the CSL?

Did you ever get a chance to check whether the insulation behind the engine is present on CSLs? I can see it in the Redish CSL restoration video, but I'm not sure if they put it on there or if it was always there.2002 Topasblau M3 - Coupe - 6MT - Karbonius CSL Airbox - MSS54HP Conversion - SSV1 - HJS - Mullet Tune - MK60 Swap - ZCP Rack - Nogaros - AutoSolutions - 996 Brembos - Slon - CMP - VinceBar - Koni - Eibach - BlueBus - Journal

Hi, could you point out which sound insulation on the M3 CSL is present? Maybe with the correct partnumber? I would like to get rid of the sound insulation in my car and want to start with what bmw thought was not necessary.Originally posted by NZ_M3 View Post
The ETK is notoriously inaccurate when it comes to the CSL. I can name quite a few errors off the top of my head.
I have personally had the headliner off my car and it does not have sound insulation.
You have to remember also that CSLs vary from production to production and even preproduction cars - there are actually two versions of the carbon roof for example made differently which some early cars got and there are at least 5 versions of the front splitter, 3 versions of the centre console at least 2 to 3 versions of the door card and the list goes on. I really should document some of these differences.
I need to double check the front engine bay one but I also recall that one is non existent. The transmission tunnel one - are you referring to the black thin material one or the thick foam ones? Or the heatshield?
The rear door cards also don’t have the foam backing and it’s also missing a metal cover on the chassis that you find on stock M3s.
But basically apart from the one by the pedals and the thin foam one behind the door cover there’s no sound deadening.
I appreciate your efforts beforehand and would like to thank you in advance.

Since csl supposedly did not have any tar sound insulating plates inside the cabin, have anyone tried to remove it in a street car? It should be around 10-12kg, so not bad weight loss. I wonder what the sound levels would be without the tar sound insulation but with full interior and carpets. Has anybody tried that?
Or maybe also, after removing the tar ones, you might add some more modern lightweight insulation on critical places to mitigate the noise? Just thinking

Did it in couple M3 I've owned. Never noticed any difference in noise before/after that would bug me. I have tinnitus and I like quiet exhaust and audio music volume is really low too. If it can gives you an idea.Originally posted by RazorM View PostSince csl supposedly did not have any tar sound insulating plates inside the cabin, have anyone tried to remove it in a street car?
