Interest in Supersprint V1 & V2 headers

    I'm looking for a sound comparison with Stepped V1s, Catted Section 1, Resonated Section 2 with each of the muffler types. Does anybody know of a video?

        Wrapping up the setup by this PM and having a final validation meeting with ECS - then it's a go. Shooting for end of PM or evening today.

            I'm going to attempt to summarize the entire SuperSprint line to clear up confusion...

            Section 0 (headers):
            1) non stepped headers. These were the first SS e46 M3 header, and are what basically every good ebay header is a copy of. They're fine, but there's no reason to buy them since SS's released their step header line.
            2) V1 stepped headers. These are the best headers on the market for the car. They make some of the most peak power and do so without trading off the midrange or bottom end. But, they require a bespoke section 1 to work (adds cost).
            3) V2 stepped headers. These are also stepped but, shorter and not oversized. They don't have the peak power potential of the V1s (which really need cams and airbox to be fully realized), but the are still good in the bottom end and middle range. Works with any section 1, including stock

            Section 1:
            1) Normal sized catted. Works with any normal sized header (not V1s). Uses HJS cats, so holds up to the heat of track use.
            2) Normal sized uncatted. Works with any normal sized header (not V1s).
            3) Oversized (2.5") catted. Only works with V1 stepped headers. Uses HJS cats, so holds up to the heat of track use.
            4) Oversized (2.5") uncatted. Only works with V1 stepped headers.

            Section 2:
            1) Single tube unresonated. Good till ~300whp. Light.
            2) Single tube resonated. Good till ~300whp. Light.
            3) Twin tube (2.5”) unresonated. Good till ~400whp. Heavier.
            4) Twin tube (2.5”) resonated. Good till ~400whp. Heavier.

            Mufflers:
            1) Street. Similar volume to stock, but nicer tone. Zero drone. 2 lbs lighter than stock.
            2) Sport. Louder, drones. 15 lbs lighter than stock. Probably the volume level than most people looking for an aftermarket muffler desire.
            3) Race. Fuck you loud, drones. 25 lbs lighter than stock.
            All mufflers above can be custom ordered in 2.5" internals. This is only beneficial for all out builds (not the normal cam/airbox/exhaust builds). Does add some weight. If you're doing this, you can also custom order a twin tube section 2 to match, so that it doesn't neck down where they join.

            Notes:
            -Street, sport, and race mufflers all flow identically.
            -resonators also don't impact flow.
            -if you want to eliminate drone, you need cats and resonators.

              From your experience, the resonated twin-pipe section 2 makes the exhaust quieter right? Does the non resonated keep the volume around the same level as the stock section 2?

                The twin tube section 2 does quiet things down a little bit. The resonators doesn't really change volume so much as tone.

                  For a baseline comparison, what power levels does the stock, resonated section 2 becoming a limiting factor?

                  Mufflers:

                  2) Sport. Louder, drones. 15 lbs lighter than stock. Probably the volume level than most people looking for an aftermarket muffler desire.

                    I would be interested in the V1 stepped headers + Oversized (2.5") catted Section 1. Thank you Obioban for the explanation. Will stock Section 2 work with Oversized (2.5") catted Section 1?

                            Would have to be as there isn't room with the cats that SS uses.

                              Stock section 1 probably starts to restrict at ~330whp.

                              I haven't heard a car with the oversized section and sport muffler in person, so can't comment on that. My guess would be that it still drones.

                                Yes, and if you're not doing the cams/airbox thing you won't be any worse off. If you do go that route, you can always do the oversized section 2 later.
