It's kind of shockingly better with the manual, for my taste. Previously, with the SMG, the experience was dominated by not feeling entirely in control of the car.

    No longer.

Nice that it came with 3.91s, so it was more or less set up for this. From everything I've read (never experienced), the stock SMG gearing is WAY too long for the manual.

Every time I drive a manual E60 M5, I'm less mad about being in an E60.

But when I get out of the car, I get mad again.

Any other plans for it? Or kinda leaving it as is for the future?

Might have to redo the suspension. KWV3s aren’t my idea of a good setup.

Otherwise, it generally has the mods I’d want already.

Black does a better job than most at hiding the e60s... lines. lol.

Damn, spun bearing took out the block too? Did it lock up and mess up the cylinder walls? Or was it some other failure mode?

            screwed up cylinder wall.

Need to find something fun to do with it and/or the crank, for the house/garage.

                lol.

That car has now been identified by its previous owner from that picture, and who the new owner is.

                Strong X5 identification.

Haha. It is not my car, although all of my cars were pictured next to that x5 through the years.

Engine blocks make great wine/beer racks, just put a piece of glass on top

Getting caught up, but I'm confused with the timeline. Engine replacement/rebuild AND 6MT conversion at the same time?

If you don't want to own that block anymore I could do something with it down here

What did you end up doing for the clutch/flywheel and how do you like it? Did you stay with S85 spec parts or go to S65?

                            S85.

initially tried s65, but it didn’t work for reasons I can’t remember now.

Interesting, we've done the S85 (OE) and S65 (SPEC) kits, but not an OE S65. Seems people do the S65 often, curious to hear your issues.

Did you buy a BMW flywheel and an LuK S85 kit or all BMW?

I really want to drive one with a 3.91 and see how different it is from stock. I can confirm the stock SMG gearing is disgustingly long for the manual. I think I saw 75mph at the top of 2nd gear lol
