The car handles incredible well, but the light shows up on longer sweepers.

On the way home I was following an SS 1LE Camaro through some roundabouts and he could not shake me off. There are five very tight roundabouts near my house, he is probably still thinking what is wrong with his car, lol.

I reckon that the uncentered rack causes a non optimum steering angle. This triggers a steering angle code. The resulting fake news is driving the chassis control processor absolutely batty.

You should be in good shape once the shop understands what is going on with the chassis electronics.

Are your front vs. rear tire sizes within acceptable circumference spec range so as not to confuse the ABS/TC control unit?
This typically would trigger the light at speed in a straight line also, but the chassis computers are more sophisticated than the late E36 units.

I think you are correct. When they finished aligning the car, the steering wheel was about 45 degrees off. He redid it and got it correct, but was blaming it on the steering coupler.

Not sure aI buy that the steering coupler being old would cause such a drastic change, but it has 130k miles and it has never been touched.

I will reset the sensor today and then try and use an e9x M3 coupler. He wanted to install a Condor racing one, but I rather stick to a new factory one or try an e9x M as it does not have the rubber piece.

Just to bring some closure to the thread, I reset the steering angle sensor with the Schwaben reader and all is good. No more traction control kicking in.

Can you remember what section of the tool's menu? Was it under "service" and then under "chassis" ?

I'm finding the Schwaben tool to be difficult to navigate with all the options that there are. I swear, I have like 6 different ABS/DCS options (when all I want to do is bleed) and I saw steering, but it looked like there were still a couple different options. Any pics?

See this thread I created. Hopefully it will help anyone else that searches as it would be buried in here otherwise.

Awesome, I was hoping (or would do it myself) that someone would make a thread about the tool and its menus. Thanks.

Yeah. The schwaben is a rabbit warren for the casual occasional user.
There is also the issue of translating what the trouble codes mean.

I believe that The sensor can also be reset by picking up the nose and doing the 10/10 power steering bleed trick. But that says nothing about the condition of the sensor.
