Coby's would be $295 for leather + $300 core. Add'l $25 for top stripe. Honestly don't mind the price but wanted to see what the current options are.

Curious as to how much your guys is charging as I'd love to go for the older textured leather as well

He definitely charges more but his work is amazing and again, I like the textured OEM leather over the new smooth leather.

Just contacted Coby, the price is good but he stated he wraps over the original leather and doesn't do full replacement and since I prefer full replacement that's a no go for me.

I went round and round on this and in the end decided to spend the extra on a new OE wheel. Every other option was a trade off in some way and for the thing in the car you touch most I didn't want to compromise.

O dang, I knew it was too good to be true for a straight swap(no downtime), full material replacement for that price. I guess with that suspicion, I'll continue my search and probably hit up Kip's guy

I've mentioned him before but he does great work. Doesn't just retrim the wheel and uses OEM textured leather, but also has the smooth, modern look if you want. It's more than Coby but still way less than a brand new wheel. Don't really see a trade off with him personally. Maybe wait time?

I was curious if anyone else has experience with Joni? I plan to get my ZCP rewrapped there being the wheels are NLA.

I've had my wheel done and a full leather interior restoration in my wagon, and the work is great. Definitely have to be patience when communicating with him as he seems to be busy all the time. That would be the only thing I could really speak bad about. Sometimes it would take a few days to hear something back. But my wheel looks OEM and I did leather because he offers the old style leather that came on the E46, not the new smooth leather being used. Plus he completely strips the wheel instead of just wrapping over the existing materials.

Coby does a great job. Tri-color stich is perfection

I'm going through the typical minor interior refresh of replacing the center console plastics, shift knob, ebrake handle, boots, and am now thinking about the steering wheel.

I don't know what I want to do about the steering wheel, and was hoping some others have been through this same process and get some advice on what works. I'm not THAT tall, but at 6'3'' my seating position is such that I'm farther away from the wheel than I want to be. I can't really move the seat forward because I already have a problem with my knees hitting the steering wheel and column during downshifts.

One option is to get a flat bottom wheel like this (I'd skip the center stripe). Side benefit is I like the thicker wheel of my F30 340 daily, and this to my eye at least looks thicker.

Another option is to get something like a momo wheel, either with a slight dish or a hub that brings the wheel closer (and higher given the angle). I think the stock wheel is 380mm and the biggest you get a momo wheel is 350mm, so I'm concerned about gauge visibility with this solution.

An aftermarket seat could also solve the problem by sitting lower, allowing me to move the seat up a bit or sit more upright. Of course there are additional weight benefits to this, but it's also a pretty expensive option.

Bump on an old thread. Any other options to restore my steering wheel to OEM textured leather + tri-color stitching besides getting a new steering wheel? Want my wheel looking just like it did when it came out of the factory. Mentioned above Joni at bmwrestoredseats is the best I’ve seen but he is difficult to get a hold of. Will go with him if there aren’t any other options (or I guess drop $2k+ on a new wheel from FCP if I want 0 compromise 🙄)

Just message him a few times on Instagram. He'll get back to you. He's been swamped lately. I just sent him a piece to get redone and had to wait a few days for replies. But I had my wheels redone and it's factory textured leather, not that new shiny leather stuff. It turned out great. Quick turn around also but I'm also on the East Coast, same as him.

Joni is a fucking scam artist piece of shit, don't use him. Fuck that liar. I called him out of Facebook the other day and he didn't say shit.

He tells you he's going to deliver X and then delivers Y, after taking his sweet time, missing deadlines, and charging more than he quoted.

Seriously, I hope I run into that dude someday.

I have them available sometimes, using original Austrian leather that BMW also used, with tighter and neater stitching compared to both original equipment and the ones you can buy from BMW right now.

But it’s time consuming and has a big lead time.

I’ve sold a few now on the board here, also in Alcantara a la CSL, but whenever I have a batch they’re all gone within the day or so.
