The only thing cool for the CSL prototype was the sparkling graphite color for me, S62 is not the engine for the CSL imo. But it's a cool concept and a nice exercise.
The M5 CSL is insane. 630bhp, DCT, 9,000rpm, light weight and probably more rigid. Im assuming the same engine the in the M6 CSL. Think of anything in period even close to these numbers, these cars would have been etched in history had they come out. Really sad just what amazing cars BMW has the ability to make but rarely ever executes on. Just wow, nothing new, even remotely excites to the level of those 3. Maybe the M2CSL they teased.2006 Silber Grau Metalizat ZCP 6 MT

The main chassis is conventional steel monocoque, but from the firewall forward, the whole front structure is made of aluminum - chassis frames, suspension sub-frames, fenders, bonnet, most of the suspensions, brake calipers... this help it cutting 65kg from the old 5-series and, more importantly, achieving 50:50 weight distribution. If the whole chassis were made of aluminum, it would have neither balanced that well nor made as much profit.Originally posted by tlow98 View Post
I’m assuming ‘chassis’ means subframes in this case? Or did they bond aluminum frame rails to a ferrous unibody, too?

Much better since it would look as good as it sounds.Originally posted by bigjae46 View PostHow about an E46 M3 with an S85 revving to 9k RPMs and a DCT?
I’m going that route if my S54 blows up. It adds weight but would be totally worth it!

If we're talking swaps, then what I would really like is a Z4M with an S85. It doesn't look like it would be ridiculously tight either, judging by pictures.Originally posted by bigjae46 View PostHow about an E46 M3 with an S85 revving to 9k RPMs and a DCT?

At that point, why not an i8? Carbon monocoque, mid engine, funny doors, "back seat"Originally posted by heinzboehmer View Post

I had actually seen those! Super cool (if you ignore the aesthetic choices lol). The V10 seems to be pretty nicely packaged in those Manhart cars, which gives me hope that this specific swap isn't crazy hard to pull off.Originally posted by Gt4 View PostIt already exist. As cool as a V10 i8 would be, I have a feeling it might be a little harder to source one than a Z4M. Plus, I'd probably be more hesitant to tear apart a $70-90k car vs a $20-30k car lol.Originally posted by Obioban View PostAt that point, why not an i8?
