So I just sent my mirror off to radar-mirror to get redone proactively (no signs of leaks, but the glass was beat up anyway). I knew about the mirror leak, but this SOS thing is new to me. Anyone got more info on this exploding feature of that?

    UPDATE
    ----

Ok found some threads. Like this one:
My m3 had an SOS mirror from the factory. It started having the dreaded mirror fluid failure so I decided to switch to the regular oval mirror as I happened to have one laying around that I needed to replace the glass on anyways. With some research, people have said to de-pin pins 4,5,6&7 from the mirror harness. I did

I guess I have no concern here because I have a vert with SOS, but I sent the original one that was with the car for repair and that's what I'm putting back in. Phew.

Same here, my repair by them has been good.

        Looks good.

Where'd you source from? P/N or Z4 model the mirror came off of?

Using the Auto sim with compass and garage opener from the E9X.

The hardware itself is 100% plug and play. Remove old mirror, twist new mirror on, reconnect harness. You may have to move some pins around on the wiring harness depending on your car. For my car, I just left the wiring harness unplugged, as I don't really care if the LED blinks when it is locked, the car stays in my garage 24/7. If you send me a message I can dig up and send you all the mirror wiring resources I have saved.

Interesting fact, to make the mirror dip for night time driving, you twist the clown nose, there is no lever on the back like most mirrors.

I finally installed a Z4 manual rear view mirror this past weekend. The installation was effortless, and the harness plugged right up. My original oval mirror had been repaired by Sysbema's Electronics but developed a spotty haze in the glass a few years back. Replacing the rear view mirror was long overdue.
