Just by hand, only took off the tiniest bit like 1mm in the direction I needed.

I highly doubt they'd deny a warranty claim for that. Just don't crack the tab with a ton a pressure if you choose to do the rat tail method. Go slow and use light pressure and you'll be fine.

Take a look at my build journal for their trunk and how much massaging I had to do. I think anything aftermarket that is hand made and not stamped out/cast/formed/milled/etc. by a large batch and highly repeatable manufacturing process, you have to expect a degree of "character".

I could see it if your warranty issue where something located right near that tab, but if you had something like a bung or a trumpet come loose, that'd have nowt to do with slightly filing more open a screw hole due to their mistake. You also don't/didn't have to disclose that you fixed their mistake in order to complete the install of the $2,000 part. As flawless as the part is, in my own experience, and seeing others', I'm surprised that they don't put the two pieces together and check alignment of screw holes. I now know of 3 of us with this issue, it's probably more.

Make that 4. I had the same issue on the same tab/hole. It was such an easy fix that I didn't even talk about it in the build thread.

BTW, hey Tyler - saw your post about the washers (or lack of) on the Karb screws we're currently discussing. I too was surprised by their lack of washer.

I went a slightly different route than a flat washer. I got some tapered/countersunk washers and screws. My plan is to paint the washer black to match the snorkel's color. But I love these washers and screws. They have a very German feel about them while assembling them.

Yeah I’m also surprised they didn’t QC check the fitment between the two sections. I’ll give it a go with a file.

I wouldn’t consider it so trivial that it shouldn’t be brought up at the very least. People should be aware that this is a possibility when they purchase a Karb airbox.

You're much fancier than me Brian! I like the soft rubber on the laquered CF.

I meant bring it up to Karb, not here on the forums. I brought it up here on the forums as well, but just in my journal.

I’m not really upset anymore now that I know the rear tab itself is not misaligned. If I line up all of the tabs, it’s the front tab that requires elongation (post 42). The front and rear/sides of the two sections line up better this way, too.

But yeah, for any potential buyers, just know that you may have to slightly modify the holes.

Ha! I didn't see you had done effectively the same thing until you pointed it out above, or I probably would have shamelessly plagiarized your solution! But when I was searching for washers, those countersunk ones popped up and I thought it might be a cool option.

I still stand by that claim for the airboxes.

Have you been monitoring my posts for the past year just waiting for a misstep so you could pounce? I'm glad I've made such an indelible impression on you. 🙄

I recently installed the Shadowline CSL box from Haimus and the box fits great. Quality is top notch and Antony was very responsive whenever I had a question.

Something looks off to me about that CF weave. Not to mention I think it's going the wrong direction.

lol all this talk about imperfect airboxes just made me think of the guy that said these things were better than OE so i went looking for that comment. coincidentally it was you, and coincidentally it was in this same thread!

you can continue saying whatever you want about these companies, that's the beauty of open discussion

Take my opinion for what it's worth. Not much. I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night though.

The "amount of imperfect" on my airbox was less than 0.5mm to get the screw to thread in without any drag. It would screw in just fine without clearancing, but would drag slightly. IMHO, I think that's pretty good margins for aftermarket and hand laid. It looks like SQ13 and Tbonem3 might have experienced slightly worse tolerances. The one OG CSL airbox I had my hands on had much larger gaps/tolerances than what any of these airboxes in the thread have documented. That was the basis for my statement.
