I have the 817.3 with CSL parameters, but have always wanted the race ABS flash... but not enough to want to lose DSC for street use.

I really wish we could get someone to understand how it works, so we could hack the unit such that DSC on would be street mode/stock abs/DSC on, and DSC off would be race ABS (and no DSC).

But, I probably just shouldn't sweat it. The CSL parameter 817.3 has never bothered me and never ice moded me. It's... fine. I just hate knowing the race software is out there, and "better".

Possible to compare the continental unit to an 818.3 MK60 unit (non-comp)? I'm starting to collect more spare parts, a big part of my 2027 budget, wondering if it is worth it to spring for an 813.3 or an RHT unit. Is it plug and play if I have an 818.3 unit? Does it require the yaw sensor?
I've driven the Falkens in various states during 8 hour races, but I'll update this thread as I move back to slicks as well.

The wiring for the MK60 vs MK60E1 varies slightly and will need the updated yaw sensor but they use the same wheel speed sensors I believe.

Would a 0845.3 unit work? If you don't mind me asking, what did it cost to get the unit reflashed by RHT?

Not too worried about the wiring, I barely have any wires left so I'll be the rare case where it will be easy.

I think the E1 vs E5 wiring is similar except there is one pin used for the adjustment via CAN on the E5

Reach out to Doug for specific questions on the pricing as it will probably depend on a full kit vs just the unit if you need.

There is also another option on race abs units via MK Rennsport in Germany - https://www.mk-motorsportteile.de/en/c/mk60-race-abs

Interesting-- they can do exactly what I was requesting above. I didn't know that was a thing, now!

We can reprogram MK60 813.3 and 817.3 ABS control units for motorsport use by modifying the firmware/software. Race ABS integrated into the Streetcar Optimized for track use Optimized for slick and semi-slick tires Optimized for biger brake systems Optimized for increased aerodynamics Adjusted for tire rolling...

I guess I have a new mod to do.

I had a complete '03 e46 325i non-M sedan main body harness and carefully removed the whole MK60 harness/plugs from it - so wheel speed sensor wiring with plugs, etc. This makes it so much easier because half the wires are already done. Just lay them out in the chassis to each wheel, route them through the chassis gromits, and plug in and go.
Liam, why not just thin the sedan harness and use it as is?

I would think for a race car there isn't really anything special about the M3 harness aside from the coolant level sensor location?

Impressive DIY. I will definitely go with the other car option with MK60.

Thanks. Is there some sort of advantage going with the E5 over the E1?

EDIT: Nevermind...I read the lotus forum thread.

Very cool! That sounds like a pretty great setup for a street/track car. Wonder if it can be taken further with a ZCP/CSL module that has the extra button input. Something like stock modes on by default. DSC off, street ABS with a press of the M track mode button and DSC off + race ABS with a press of the switch center button.

Maybe it's time to revisit the disassembly of these modules (including the Z4/E9x/E1/E5/etc.). The data processing robots are getting pretty good these days, I bet this is a task well suited for their skillset.

Kidding. I've been thinking about attempting the disassembly recently, independent of this thread. No guarantees that I won't get (motivationally) stuck in the same place that others have in the past, though.

You still have that MK60 module you cut open?

Figuring out how to reprogram ABS would be badass!

I would check racing sanctioning body rules which might change some things. For example the E1 is legal in NASA ST/TT4 which is where a lot of BMW E chassis cars land for classing. Might make the endeavor more worthwhile.

non-m MK60 has all of the CSL code in it for m-track, FWIW

                                Absolutely! I'd love to open-source MK60 flashing.

I would have, but I pulled the mk60 wiring out of that main harness about a year ago with the original intent to use it in my Honda race car. Since then, I changed my mind and decided to use a Honda S2000 ABS system instead; it was far easier to get working and very similar in performance to the mk60. And I have cannibalized what's left of that sedan harness for other projects. I suppose I could have gotten another harness but he had already cut and removed a bunch of wire from his harness (cut as far back as he could without removing the dash/hvac), so it just seemed like that was the right play.

But for anyone else, there are very few differences between the M3 and non-M harnesses for the most part, and it's a much cheaper option for obtaining a main harness if you need one for this conversion.
