Good Lead on Fuel Pump

I finally replaced my failed pump with the Hella unit. Got it from Rock Auto of all places for $84 with a 5% off code. Plug and play, and car started right away. The only problem I had was getting the quick release fuel connector off, and then I made the stupid mistake of plugging it together to test, but forgot to put the ring on first, so I had to remove it a second time.

I have it, works great. Plug and play, beats the heck out of retrofitting the walbro one and its super quiet.

Just checking in for any updates on the reliability of the Hella pump? Ive seen a few reports of failure before 10,000miles or some under 3 years. Hoping these are anomalies and others here have had good results.

For aftermarket options Ive been able to find Hella, Delphi and Bremman(?) available plus genuine BMW at my local dealer.There is a significant price difference between the aftermarket and genuine pump, I'll go for the genuine is the aftermarket options are unreliable, im just looking for some real feedback from others who have experience.

I know people who recently installed the HELLA pumps and the cars running just fine. They don’t drive them enough so yeah……

I am running an OEM VDO SIEMENS one.

i wonder if someone knows a Fuelpump that we can install in the original housing and be done with this issue. Maybe the DeatschWerks DW200 (255 LPH)

The bad part is...the plastic will eventually fail so then you're back to buying an OEM fuel pump.

That reminds me...I am looking for a bad OEM fuel pump assembly if anyone wants to sell one.

I am. It works but I have to crank it twice sometimes to turnover. I've never investigated the issue since it is a track car and I have to climb through the roll cage to pull the fuel pump. If I had to guess, the 255lph pump I got either doesn't have a check valve or the check valve isn't working.

The bad part is...the plastic will eventually fail so then you're back to buying an OEM fuel pump.

Yes two cranks would annoy me as would doing the work and then having the plastic fail, this is one of the reasons I didn't want to go down the walbro pump install. The other option is the DW 255 or 420 kit, comes with everything needed to swap out the OEM pump in the sender unit, these all have check valves installed. Some instructions say the plastic needs to be cut some say it just slots in? Given the Hella unit is under $200 complete swap straight in I'd be fine going for that if there were others who had log term success...just don't want to do the job twice.

Oh wow...my mistake. That would be interesting since it replaces the OEM plastic top piece where the hose plugs into. That tends to break with that stupid connector.

Can’t provide any long term reviews based solely on mileage because I haven’t even put 10 miles on it since replacing it due to other unrelated issues. But I can say that it starts every single time I’ve tried since, so time-wise it seems to be holding up, and the gas price in my tank was last filled in 2018.

Yeah thanks I think I'll give the Hella a go. The Radium kit that 9kracing linked looks great but after reading the assembly and install instructions its overkill for standard m3.

I've got a Deatschwerks DW300 ready to swap into my Hella housing, just waiting for a hose to arrive (Radium install kit seems to include the wrong size hose) Tried buying used pumps locally for the housing but I got nowhere with that so will have to use the Hella.

First however I will try just swapping in a new hose, have this feeling I could be losing pressure there and it's not the pump/check valve itself but we'll see.

NA, I just followed the compatible pump list on the kit and it was the only DW pump shown.

this is what it shows me when I put in a 2004 M3. The 200 should be ok for us NA folks with a tune.
