I sort of asked him about it - he told me that ultimately the members will decide which they want and that's how we will end up with one forum again. So I guess just keep posting and growing here and maybe he will migrate.

At this point both groups have taken on some costs that can't be refunded.

The fragmentation is unfortunate. This site is bigger thus far, but it seems like it's splitting up such that E46 guys are mostly here and E36 guys are mostly there.
Why couldn't he handle the responsibilities of the expanded portion? And commercial sponsorships If it was just 1 site?

No loss, he shames and puts people down constantly. who has time for that abuse and in this day of age, that should be look down on. If people want to FAP over his zinc coated bolts then they should go worship him on his "own" forum.

Sometimes this happens. I own both E46 and E36 and I concur - seems like more E36 guys went with Brett's forum vs E46 guys going with this one. Which is fine - I signed up for both simply because I can. And so can everybody else - its not like it cost anything.

It could have been something we considered had he actually communicated with us before launching the site. But really, it's not like he was ever on our shortlist of people we were planning on collaborating with.

Ian and I decided early on that we don't want commercial sponsors. Right now the operating costs are nearly zero thanks to Liam. Should that change in the future we might have to reevaluate the whole sponsorship thing, but even then I think I'd prefer to go down the route of setting up a patreon or something. I don't think that'll be a big concern any time soon.

If it does come to the point where there was a need to fund the forum, I would suggest reaching out to the members of the site first. I would have no problem donating to keep this forum free of sponsors and ads. The feel of the old forum was something I really appreciated and this forum seems to have captured that as well.

                Agreed. Good riddance.

Thanks to all involved in ensuring the living legacy of M3Forum. Looking forward to seeing what Obioban, Terra, and Co. do with it.

Possible that more E46 guys are here because I posted in a lot of E46/M3 groups on Facebook about this site as replacement for the old forum and that a lot of old contributors were joining here.

All jobs done as diy - clutch, rod bearings, rear subframe rebush, vanos, headers, cooling, suspension, etc.

This forum wins easily. More members will and already have migrated here. Tack on that Obioban said we are getting a bunch of the old threads back, no ads, and this site is 100% community driven and it is a no brainer. Then in the off chance that m3forum.net does come back we can migrate threads here that are important. However, I will miss the occasional seemingly worthless thread that out of nowhere presents an uber useful tidbit of knowledge.

I'm sure whatever his name is in real life is a fine person but all of my brief interactions with him on the old forum were beyond terrible and I try really really hard to be kind and helpful at all times. Put bluntly, he is online persona is that of a real a$$h#le. However, he most definitely knows what he is doing and I respect his efforts, knowledge, and time spent on these cars.

As opposed to a forum owned and policed by people who ban others for a difference in opinion? Lol.

Lots of nut huggers migrated here too. Will gladly check his site out.

This layout is very simple, clean, and intuitive. I am sure Ian also worked very hard to get it to this point so it would be shame to have to migrate again but whatever works best I suppose.

I was able to rescue 145,198 threads from the old site. So I have a lot of stuff. I'm working on writing a migration tool to import all that stuff, but it's tricky. Hopefully, I'll have something going here shortly.
