Fuel pump dilemma/replacement options in 2025 (+ FCP Euro rant)

Context: I bought a new fuel pump from a dealer in 2019. About 15k miles later, the hose on the assembly gave out and cracked. In the interest of time and longevity, I bought a new unit from FCP Euro at the end of 2023. 18 months later, and with only a few hundred miles of driving, the new pump has also decided to stop working. Ok, no problem I figured; I'll just use this lifetime guarantee for the first time (I've ordered thousands of $$ worth of parts from FCP in recent years). But, two problems:

    1. At the end of 2023, the new pump assembly was $500 + tax. Today, its $700 + tax. Ok fine, I'll pay another $200 + tax. That's still decent value I suppose.

    2. But now I learn that in order to use FCP's lifetime replacement guarantee, I have to first re-purchase the fuel pump assembly as a new/separate transaction and then send back the old one after. Kind of annoying but still doable. However, I also learn that I don't even get a refund for the original purchase, I get store credit instead. I have admittedly never taken a close look at the terms & conditions or recent policy changes, but I find this appalling and borderline fraudulent. To me, FCP's wording and marketing of the "lifetime replacement" implies an equivalent exchange of a defective part, which is materially misleading and does not align with the remedy they actually provide. The policy functions as a repurchase cycle, not a replacement guarantee, and locks customers into higher prices and store credit with effectively no practical way out.

With that said, I'm not sure if I want to continue doing business with these guys. I'm also not sure what to do at this point. I could swap the functional pump from my 2019 assembly into the 2023 assembly, but I don't know how long it will last. And from what I remember, aftermarket alternatives have always been hit or miss. I've been out of the game for a few years; are there any new/reputable alternatives that I don't know about? What would you do in my shoes? Thank you in advance, gents.

As annoying as that change was (years ago now btw), they're still the best place to order oe parts from by a long shot. Gluck taking your business elsewhere(cough ecs) with way worse problems.

dumb question as its been a decade since I've looked at the FP in person, but is it not possible to somehow cannibalize the FCP pump hose to the dealership pump?

Afraid you're probably right. Would much prefer $500 back in my pocket than stuck in store credit though.

I'm sure it's possible, whether swapping the hose or pump. But that pump is 6 years old, and though it worked when I removed it, I'd have to give it some power and test it. And then I don't know how long it would last.

I would be curious to know why these are failing so early? These pumps should last 20 years and 100k+ miles.

I wonder if there isn't a fuel hose you could order and cut to length, I don't know if rubber fuel hose would be able to run that loop without kinking.
You might have to either make that loop a larger diameter or eliminate it, but something tells me the loop is there for a reason.

I put in the Hella branded model sold on Bimmerworld yesterday. Price is under $150. It looks identical to OEM

                Time will tell on longevity.

On the FCP policy - agree it’s not great. If you’re replacing parts that were purchased prior to the store credit policy change they will still refund back to your credit card if you ask. But I believe that change happened around 2020 - so it won’t work for your 2023 purchase.

A store credit is better than nothing I guess.

I have the radium conversion that uses the 255lph pump. It works fine except it doesn't fire up on the first crank most of the time. It's a track car and not really interested in crawling through the cage to fix it. Not sure if my pump lacks a check valve, a wiring issue or something else. The radium conversion does leave room to screw it up. You have to get the correct height on the pump. But a far cheaper option...and cheap to keep a spare on hand.

I had that no start issue with a Walbro pump. Went away when I swapped to an AEM pump. Not sure if the Walbro didn't have a check valve or if it was losing pressure somewhere else.

I hooked up my older pump (from 2019 with the broken hose) to a battery and it fired right up. Was able to remove the pump from the assembly also. Now I can either:

                        1. Swap the old working pump into the new assembly, or,

                        2. Put the old working pump back into the old assembly, buy the replacement hose that heinzboehmer linked, purchase a lifetime replacement from FCP ($700+), return the defective 2023 pump assembly for $500 in store credit, and immediately re-sell the new one for whatever I can get for it on here ($400?). Don't think the hassle is worth my time..

I've never had any other issues with FCP and will continue to use them for ease of purchasing and generally fair pricing, but honestly just really disappointed with the fact that the lifetime replacement guarantee is more or less worthless in a real-world use case like this.. Take heed if you're ignorant like I was.

Thank you for the help, gents. Very happy to see that this community is still active.

What's wrong with a store credit? You own a car right? Things on cars break. If your planning on owning the car for the next year or so, you will need buy parts at some point when something else breaks on your car. You use the credit then, rather than having to spend the money. That credit does not have to be used on a fuel pump, it can be used on any part. You can even use that credit to buy parts for other vehicles.

I actually thought this thread was going to be that the factory fuel pump was NLA or had gone up to some absurd price.

have you tried talking to them? maybe they can get you the full 700$ credit for the new cost of the new pump once you return the 2023 defective one?

I never trusted the fuel pumps in these cars after one left me stranded in rush hour traffic.

I mean, FCP is a for profit organization. Of course you're not getting anything for free.
