At that price I don't think it's worth it at all. It also looks like the 120mm version necks down quite a bit, but is the same price as the 200mm version. I wonder why they offer the 120 at all.

Find someone doesn't care or swap it back to stock every two years.

I got an Evolve Box... mainly bcoz I was lazy and at the time I just wanted it to come with the OE bits I needed and a Tune so i could get going straight away... Arguably there is better value in a Karb box getting the OE bits you need yourself and getting a better tune from Paul Claude or Hassan,,, I will soon need to get a custom Paul Claude or HTE tune as I am not happy with the canned tune I got but it did allow me to get going with the extensive mods I had straight away instead of trying to run a stock CSL tune so I don't regret it in any way. I am still incredibly happy with my Evolve box/purchase and its kinda cool to know it was based on an original Race Box... if you want the more original street / flap setup then obvs Karb is the way to go but the Evolve box is well and truly proven so if you want the race style and look its still a great buy IMHO

The two things I noticed with a Karbonius Airbox produced in 2015 were that the oil return line hose to the oil pan did not create a seal with the o-ring due to the fact that the port was too short for the fitting and the ICV port was not chamfered like it is on the OE box to reduce the whistling noise at low RPM. And all the details about the trumpet design and internals being smoother have not been proven to make any measurable difference. It honestly sounds like a bunch of marketing and a way to claim they differentiated their product from the original. That being said, the Karbonius is still high quality and great value for what it is. The original airboxes made by Die Wejthe have been around for 13 years and all the ones I have seen have held up very well.
Thank you for the detailed explanation!

Looks awesome. Dyno results? P.S. Is this race version quieter or different in tone than original without flap? 👍

No, they all sound the same. A carbon airbox with a 200mm opening makes the same sound as a carbon airbox with a 200mm opening, lol. With the hood closed, the intake noise is coming from the same area of the engine bay.

I got to find the dyno sheet but IIRC with Supersprint tubular, im making 305 at the wheels. As for the sound, Its hard to tell, between what setups are run and stuff. I also havent heard many in person so im not sure but id be surprised if it was louder.

Owning all iterations of the airbox from Wethje and Karbonius ect and having heard all the airbox on the market I can tell you this is categorically not true. They all sound different.

Gordon Murray in his Topgear video on his T50 hypercar talked about tuning the thickness of the carbon airbox for a specific sound resonance in the Mclaren F1 road car. He basically said with intake waves the sound actually bounces back up the airbox so depending on the design and carbon thickness you get a different sound.

The Wethje airbox that Evolve copied from is actually the quietest airbox and for me the most underwhelming to drive both in performance and noise. It was notably flat and lacked torque.

It's splitting hairs. I've heard many different ones and they all sound extremely similar from inside the cabin behind the firewall and outside near the engine bay. Maybe if the intake tract is right above your head, it would be noticeably different.

I would say close, but notably different. At dyno days we had three different airboxes (Wethje, Karbonius, Geoff Steel) and they all sound distinctively different that if you blind folded me I’d be able to tell you which is which easily.

Which one would you say sounded best? (or maybe loudest since best is very subjective)

Perform the same test with a group of potential airbox buyers and I don't think you'll get the same result. Carbon airbox versus CAI, sure.

Funnily enough everyone at the dyno day said they were surprised how different each airbox sounded. So I am just going to agree to disagree here. I have run these for long enough to tell the difference. Even youtube videos of them side by side revving you can tell a distinct tone difference.

Dumb question...if I have an MSS54HP DME then I can load a stock CSL tune, install the Karbonius airbox and then go? Or do I still need a MAP sensor?
