Anyone have any experience with the one from this seller? Not sure yet if I want black stitching or the m color.

Any other reason youre switching away from the coby alcantara? I'm looking to get my wheel alcantara wrapped by them in the near future, but not sure how quickly or badly the alcantara wears over time

I like the clean leather look personally. I think once the Alcantara starts to wear and fade it ages the interior horribly. I added about 6k miles to my car from when I purchased the wheel to the present. The car always stayed in the garage and I don't have greasy hands. It showing some signs of wear. Not terrible but enough to trigger my OCD. I checked his website for a leather wheel and I wasnt too impressed. The leather looked grey in color.

Once I have my car back from getting the entire convertible top rebuilt I can take some pics of the wheel in its current condition. Its decent but not perfect the way I like it. I have the cinnamon stitching which is really nice.

Here’s my Coby wheel review. Have bought from him 2 times, both alcantara. He has answered every phone call and answered every question I had. His communication is 10/10. He did an amazing job, looks near perfect. 3k miles/1year so far with no noticeable wear.. I know that’s not very long though. My OEM ZCP alcantara wheel at 115k was BEAT. Alcantara felt like rubbery plastic. One complaint about switching from OEM leather (from my old car) is that the alcantara feels more slippery and doesn’t grip as much, which is expected. It’s best to wear leather gloves when driving. I just have to make sure my hands are clean. I’ll post a picture of mine. Would highly recommend.

I think they're raising prices because they know they can get away with it. The $200-300 a few years ago was a lot of money for these countries but since BMW parts prices have gone through the roof, so why not move in tandem with theirs? For example, in 2010 I bought a BMW oil and/or coolant temp sensor for $10 (same part interchangeably), it's now sold for $50. With a 5x jump in value over 10 years it would've been wise to invest in BMW coolant Getting back OT, I paid $180 in 2015 for my wheel to be redone (plus shipping). I wanted the factory look as I'm very OCD about keeping the car as new as it was in 2003. I don't even slide across the bolster when I get in, I push up on the door sill to keep my weight off of it to prevent that wear. He did an awesome job, I added extra padding, kept the stock M colored stitching, and the wheel all Napa so it would look factory. It was actually smoother than the BMW Nappa.

I've had alcantara and it really does get dirty quick no matter how careful you are. It also wears faster and then makes the interior look old and cheap IMO. I think original leather wheel is perfect for this car and is period correct for us purists but OE is very pricy. I just found a guy in Bulgaria who uses OEM type of leather (textured) as opposed to smooth leather which comes on newer BMWs. Found the guy on other BMW forums and people were pleased with the quality. I'll report back once I receive the wheel but I expect it to look exactly like the original one. Here's his e-mail - google it and you'll find a lot of links to threads on his work. mr2@abv.bg

Had Coby wrap my wheel in alcantara back in 2014 (or 50k kms/31k mi ago). Looked great for 2yrs, decent for the next 2yrs, and complete shiite for the last two.

It’s replacement is going to be a wheel from Carbontastic. Looking at their Throtl (a YouTube channel) special edition: https://www.realcarbontastic.com/pro...steering-wheel

$899 USD is steep no doubt, but their wheels are simply works of art.

I have a European done rewrap I bought on ebay for my 330i ZHP - I don't actually remember the date was probably around 2014 - but it held up really well up until the point that I sold the car.

                  p.s. what a beautiful car.

purchased a wheel for my e83 last year and they seriously do great work... the guys in Europe put a lot of effort into the work and I find the craftsmanship is old school still with quality and reliability. stitching is on point and yes, the wheel is a bit thicker, but I like that. I wouldn't hesitate getting anything like this from Poland. Im a little skeptical about that shit more than others as Im harder on my bros than others.

Does not look factory, though. This is napa leather. Factory had way more grain to it, I believe it was dakota.

Yes, this one looks very close to factory grain.

It was a ledermanz, I found him on ebay. I think he's still around actually. If you get this done and you don't want it to start looking greasy and shiny again, buy some driving gloves. I got in the habit of doing it and haven't looked back. I like looking at a fresh new wheel every day.

And no, it doesn't look 100% factory, it's actually better!
