Once I have my car back from getting the entire convertible top rebuilt I can take some pics of the wheel in its current condition. Its decent but not perfect the way I like it. I have the cinnamon stitching which is really nice.

I think they're raising prices because they know they can get away with it. The $200-300 a few years ago was a lot of money for these countries but since BMW parts prices have gone through the roof, so why not move in tandem with theirs? For example, in 2010 I bought a BMW oil and/or coolant temp sensor for $10 (same part interchangeably), it's now sold for $50. With a 5x jump in value over 10 years it would've been wise to invest in BMW coolant Getting back OT, I paid $180 in 2015 for my wheel to be redone (plus shipping). I wanted the factory look as I'm very OCD about keeping the car as new as it was in 2003. I don't even slide across the bolster when I get in, I push up on the door sill to keep my weight off of it to prevent that wear. He did an awesome job, I added extra padding, kept the stock M colored stitching, and the wheel all Napa so it would look factory. It was actually smoother than the BMW Nappa.

I've had alcantara and it really does get dirty quick no matter how careful you are. It also wears faster and then makes the interior look old and cheap IMO. I think original leather wheel is perfect for this car and is period correct for us purists but OE is very pricy. I just found a guy in Bulgaria who uses OEM type of leather (textured) as opposed to smooth leather which comes on newer BMWs. Found the guy on other BMW forums and people were pleased with the quality. I'll report back once I receive the wheel but I expect it to look exactly like the original one. Here's his e-mail - google it and you'll find a lot of links to threads on his work. mr2@abv.bg

Had Coby wrap my wheel in alcantara back in 2014 (or 50k kms/31k mi ago). Looked great for 2yrs, decent for the next 2yrs, and complete shiite for the last two.
It’s replacement is going to be a wheel from Carbontastic. Looking at their Throtl (a YouTube channel) special edition: https://www.realcarbontastic.com/pro...steering-wheel
$899 USD is steep no doubt, but their wheels are simply works of art.
Here’s their insta for the kids: https://www.instagram.com/carbontastic/

purchased a wheel for my e83 last year and they seriously do great work... the guys in Europe put a lot of effort into the work and I find the craftsmanship is old school still with quality and reliability. stitching is on point and yes, the wheel is a bit thicker, but I like that. I wouldn't hesitate getting anything like this from Poland. Im a little skeptical about that shit more than others as Im harder on my bros than others.
