Hell yeah. Let's see how far it's feasible to get using non-destructive methods (i.e. trying to disassemble a FW dump from one of the official BMW tools), but I'll definitely take you up on that if/when it becomes unfeasible to continue down that path.Originally posted by George Hill View PostHappy to donate an MK60 to this project
I suspect the amount of effort needed to go from zero to "one MK60 HW version flashable" is orders of magnitude larger than the amount of effort needed to extend the flash tool to work with all the MK60 versions. So, highly likely that once one is figured out, all the others will be modifiable as well.Originally posted by bigjae46 View Post
Figuring out how to reprogram ABS would be badass!
I would check racing sanctioning body rules which might change some things. For example the E1 is legal in NASA ST/TT4 which is where a lot of BMW E chassis cars land for classing. Might make the endeavor more worthwhile.2002 Topasblau M3 - Coupe - 6MT - Karbonius CSL Airbox - SSV1 - HJS - Mullet Tune - MK60 Swap - E86 Front Triangulation - ZCP Rack - Nogaros - AutoSolutions - 996 Brembos - Slon - CMP - VinceBar - Koni - Eibach - BlueBus - Journal

Even if you want to use it with a bench harness setup, no sweat, just let me know.Originally posted by heinzboehmer View PostI'll definitely take you up on that if/when it becomes unfeasible to continue down that path.

Well, I don't know about all the stuff that you mentioned, but there are certainly some things possible.Originally posted by heinzboehmer View Post
Very cool! That sounds like a pretty great setup for a street/track car. Wonder if it can be taken further with a ZCP/CSL module that has the extra button input. Something like stock modes on by default. DSC off, street ABS with a press of the M track mode button and DSC off + race ABS with a press of the switch center button.
Maybe it's time to revisit the disassembly of these modules (including the Z4/E9x/E1/E5/etc.). The data processing robots are getting pretty good these days, I bet this is a task well suited for their skillset.
I run the MK ABS software on my m3 and it works great on track.
Since I use an ECU master engine control, standard DSC is not working for me anyways, but ECU master has its own racing TC, so I'm fine with that. MK offers a standalone ABS unit, it's also a MK60 block, but from a non-m E92 afaik. Advantage is that it broadcasts more data on the can strEam than the E46 blocks. It has two changeables: a soft street like interference or a harder race mode and a soft kill switch allowing to drive without abs. Disadvantage is you lose the features that come with the integrated units such as DSC.

I will very excitedly follow along though if you do decide to have a go at this!
