Is this a oem zcp steering wheel?

    Hey all,

im thinking of buying a zcp steering wheel. Im being told it is a new never used oem zcp factory steering wheel not a rewrap. Any way to tell if this is true? I have attached the pic of the wheel.

You can try and compare it to the pictures on ECS's website. These usually come with the top and bottom trim pieces unless the owner took those off and kept them. You can also check the date code in the molding and it should be well after 2006, depending on when it was purchased.

How much are they asking? New one from a BMW online parts store is about 600 plus shipping.

It doesn't appear to be - genuine have a single seam in the Alcantara at 6 o'clock, that one has two seams at about 5 o'clock and 7 o'clock

Are you sure about that? This is a genuine BMW ZCP steering wheel and it has the two seams.

*This was a clients that wanted Alcantara and tri-color stitching, he bought a ZCP wheel and swapped in the buttons and installed on his E39 (well, paid me to do it which is why I know it is a legit wheel).

Wow so this is interesting then - so BMW made them with two different styles of seams?

Maybe they changed the manufacturing at some point (after 2006)? This is the original wheel on an 06 ZCP:

Honestly - I love the discovery of this sort of minute, essentially irrelevant, detail - so interesting haha

Funny enough I was just looking for a new ZCP steering wheel and I went on realoem and found that the ZHP or “Sport” E46 Alcantara steering wheels have the one seam at the bottom, but the ZCP steering wheels have two.

Part number for SMG ZCP steering wheel is 32342282502, manual ZCP wheel 32342282992. Both have two seams. E46 Sport wheel 32347919218, one seam.

Maybe they did change manufacturing though like heinzboehmer said if that’s a picture of an original ZCP wheel?

This is NOT an original BMW wheel. Wrong seam placement, and look at this horrendous stitching. Wrong stitch placement, wrong size stitch, wrong stitching length on 9 and 3 o'clock.

You know what, you're totally right.

I remember being super surprised at how bad the quality of the wheel was when I first saw it. Looked up pictures of (what I thought were) real ZCP steering wheels and they matched what was on the car. But looking at pictures again, they don't match at all.

Hmm, this is making me reconsider a ZCP wheel for my car. Don't love the alcantara look, but really do like how it feels in the hands.

Are you sure about that? All the ones I've found are north of $1300.

Same, genuine ZCP ones I see are $1300+. If you’re looking for a good quality wheel though, try Maar Handels GmbH (formerly Tainik) on eBay. I personally haven’t gotten one from him but I only hear good things. He sells a ZCP spec wheel for around $650 with shipping.

No tricolor stitching, but not 1300 - https://www.schmiedmann.com/en/produ...2-34-7-919-217
