CSL Airbox MAP sensor wiring inquiry

I'm in the middle of my airbox install. Was just about the start splicing into the dme for power and ground wires, but someone brought to my attention this(link) wiring kit which is mostly plug n play.

I was thinking about how they did it, and realized I had thought of this wiring method before, but shied away as I didn't want to be the first to go outside what others are doing.

Basically they share the IAT to MAF harness with the MAP sensor by sharing the power and ground line. Then they run a separate line from the MAP to the DME for signal, which plugs into the open slot.

So before I go splicing the factory wires, does anyone see any issue with cutting into the IAT to MAF harness, and sharing power and ground for the MAP with the IAT wires.

Updated diagram based on thread. Use the PDF attached for higher res view:

Yep that general approach will work. Note in your diagram that the IAT lines should be signal and ground, not power and ground (Your diagram needs a third line to represent the IAT signal).

Also it's possible rather than running a separate wire from the MAP to the DME to use the MAF connector for the lot if you move pin 1 to pin 18 on the X60003 connector. See my post here that explains it: https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/s...164#post311164

This is completely genius, and should be the gold standard.

Thank for you for clarifying the signal wire. You're right, I mixed up the signal and ground for the line that goes into the open slot 16 on the dme.

I'll go ahead and do a temporary connection(Wago connectors) to get things going and start assembling one of these harnesses.

        Actually - I think I have everything I need. karter16

Here is the IAT to MAF cable I have which I can sacrifice. Already have the necessary MAP wiring assembled which I can go back and deconstruct.

Nice one - I think the only thing you'll need is more pins for the MAF connector right? In your last photo it looks like only two of the five are pinned?

Can I please get a link to the heat shrink you used on the MAF connector?
            Old, not obsolete.

Yeah this is from the IND kit which is just meant to connect the IAT to MAF. Looks like I'm actually missing a couple pins to complete this.

I don't have any source for it. It came with this kit: link

I'll have to find another solution as I just cut it off.

Any high-ratio heat shrink should be suitable for this - from memory you need about 35mm stuff for it to fit (I recommend measuring though and not trusting my 8 month old memory on this). If you use the glue-filled type it will stay stuck in place once it's shrunk on.

I'll add a journal entry for all of this but thanks again to karter16 for the amazing investigate work with the wiring, and great writeup.

I'm going to redo this harness in the future to clean some aspects up but it came out great, installed with ease, and re-pinning the one wire in the dme was super easy. If you're thinking about doing a CSL airbox with MAP don't consider any other method!

I'll draw up a new visual diagram that can be easily followed, though Karters detail is pretty clear.

I sent a note to the folks at: https://auto3design.co.uk/online-sho...onversion-kits

                          They noted the following:

We can definitely do this if there is interest and requires 1 less cable to route. The only concern I have is that sometimes the connector pins in the DME become flat when you de-pin and need to be adjusted to allow them to lock back into the connector when you change position. If the tabs broke or didn't lock in place then the signal wire could potentially fall out the connector.

I'll run some tests and see if we can reduce the risk and I'll keep you updated when the new product is released (with a discount of course).
Reach out to them if there's interest.

If doing it once that seems ridiculous, but an understandable concern. It's so easy to remove though I didn't find any resistance or difficulties like other pin harnesses.
