error codes after CSL intake, rod bearing, vanos rebuild

So I finally got my car running again after a few months of being down, it starts up at first crank, it idles well and drives well, although I haven't gone pass 3-4k because I'm trying to break in the new clutch. I'm running MAP sensor and had pcs tuning convert my ECU to mss54hp csl software +. No CEL so far after 100 miles, but when I plug in INPA, I get error codes 223 and 151, I tried clearing it but it won't go away any thoughts on what I should check?

IIRC 151 is the error code for the wrong injector drivers on mss54 vs mss54hp. The other one could be resistor related. What year is your car? It sounds like it could be due to the dme conversion process. Check out this thread.

Jump to post #9 for info on first converting an MSS54 into an MSS54HP (non CSL). This was originally posted by Terra on M3Forum. I just went through this process, so I thought I would bring over all the posts from that thread that were relevant to the process. I've also added some information afterwards about converting and

My car is 2002, and I did have the ECU converted to mss54hp

Did they change the resistors too? They also have to clear out the injector driver error. That thread I linked shows how to do all of this.

Was your DME originally an MSS54? If so, 151 is harmless and can be suppressed in the tune. There's some hardware difference between the injector drivers between non-HP and HP so it throws a code, but they both function the same.

How did you wire your MAP? Saugrohrdrucksensor means MAP sensor in German, so sounds like the second error might be related to that.

Edit: skristedja beat me to it. But yes he's right, make sure the resistors are what they should be (these are for the MAP sensor) and if everything else is working as it should then you should be good to just clear the injector error.

that I don't know, I'll have to ask the tuner, I already emailed him so let's see. I'm hoping this can be solved by reflashing the software? so I don't have to ship the ECU again lol

MSS52's and -54's need to have additional resistors swapped out. The MAP error is most likely due to incorrect slope & intercept values, and is generating an "implausible" error when compared to the internal baro, which looks to be reading correctly (1013 mbar/atmo).

would it be safe to drive the car with those error codes for now? I'm breaking in a new clutch, so I'm not going over 3-4k

                  Hi,

Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

I have an original mss54hp that throws error 223 and has rough idle and stalls at low revs when warm. It had h bridge installed by and was tuned by pcs but I’m struggling to get paul to take ecu back to look into issue.

                  Any advise appreciated.

                  Thanks

Sounds like there's people/tuners out there converting mss54s to mss54hps and not actually doing the full complete conversion. Shame

Mine was already mss54hp so just had h bridge installed for the genuine flap but has this 223 error.

Have changed map sensor and wiring but still same code and issue.

                      any ideas?

what are the details of the error code? - when you read the codes INPA should give a bunch of additional detail e.g. what the reading off the MAP sensor was at the time the error was logged, etc.

Thanks - very helpful. Looks like it's failing at the initial check (before the vehicle is started). The code performs a plausibility check to make sure that the MAP sensor and the DME sensor are within range of each other before the engine is started.

The DME ambient pressure sensor is working correctly (992mbar). Given you have an HP (presuming you definitely got the same DME back again) you don't need to worry about the resistor thing mentioned above. I'd try to log what value the DME is getting from the MAP sensor and see what it is and if it's getting anything at all. That will help narrow down where to look next.
