Welcome to my life. Same thing happened to me last month.

Time sert to the rescue. Only fix worth the effort. All of the other methods are temporary fixes. Get yourself a time sert kit, red loctite 262, locktite activator ans you'll be all set.

Is this better than the OEM ZHP route? I might be doing a manual swap and looking at all leather options versus the alcantara ZCP boot and knob combo.

I guess it's all a matter of personal preference. I opted for the F10 M5 knob because it's illuminated. I'm still rocking the broomstick knob so I can't say either way lol

Nice, I didn't have the will to try that so I bought one from our resident rack rebuilder on here, can't wait to get that thing installed!

How did you get the inner seal out? The one that's buried waaay down in there.

It's quite simple actually, if you're careful you'll get zero scraped like me. I used a long screwdriver to "punch" the outer race and leave an indent. Once I had a groove from the punch, I used a larger screwdriver and went through the outer race. Once my screwdriver was through, I used vice grips on the screwdriver and twisted clockwise until it deformed the outer race, couple twists. (You can see it in my photo). It's the oil seal with the odd shape.

Once it's bowed, take out your screw driver and you have a much larger surface area to catch it. Good news is the lip that is exposed IS the outer race, so getting into it isn't hard. I was careful and caused no damage I could see or feel.

If you need the tools that worked for me, you can borrow them. I'll drop them off 😎
