I think I may just end up getting the sunroof headliner modified...this is starting to get ridiculous with dealers charging around $1k shipped only to come back to me and tell me they can't order it. The materials such as roof bow, insulation, headliner will end up costing more than the actual roof itself.

I was able to buy a new karbonius cf roof on ebay of all places last night so this is starting to get real...still not sure what to do.

If it would help to use mine for materials, you're welcome to my sunroof headliner if you want to come get it. I'm about an hour north of Charlotte, NC. I commute to Charlotte typically 3 days a week.

Most of the cost with the CF roof conversion isn't in the roof itself, but everything else that has to happen.

I do need to make it to Charlotte sometime very soon to visit a friend/coworker. I may have to take you up on that!

Absolutely, I am starting to consider trying to attempt this myself as shops are quoting around $3k to do it around here...I'm pretty careful when working with my hands so I'm not worried about drilling too deep into the rivets or anything but the epoxy part scares me a bit with water leaks being the biggest concern.

Yeah, I was sitting around trying not to spend money on the car, and sure enough one is on ebay. I paid $1590 for it which the seller was open to offers...but I didn't want to chance someone else scooping it up.

Same, I have bought a ton of good stuff from them
over the years for my cars. I would look
there first for the headliner. They will probably do it for you even if it’s not “official” if you email their customer service and are cool about how you ask.

I've looked there too, seems like a good place to keep an eye on. ultimately, I'm not sure spending $1k on something that lays above my head as a beauty barrier between me and the insulation/roof is worth it.

i'm going to talk to the local restoration expert who sometimes works on headliners to see if he can just convert mine. I'd be okay with some thick cardboard cutout and glued in place. Once the headliner is in place, I'm sure it will be impossible to tell unless I go fear and loathing in Atlanta.

See if someone has a used headliner they can sell. I posted a WTB in a bunch of the local BMW and nationwide M3 Facebook groups, and was able to grab one from a local member who had a spare.

FYI, the slicktop headliner is a completely different shape. Sure, you could delete the hole in your sunroof headliner, but you'd be gaining no headroom, which is part of the appeal of the slicktop conversion.

that is true, although i have no plans for tracking atm so it may not matter. plus, i’m not that tall 😂😂😂

ideally, i would absolutely love to have a slicktop headliner..just not very optimistic at the moment but will do my due diligence and start throwing WTB’s everywhere.

ugaexploder I know you alluded to this, but has anyone had any luck ordering a gray or beige one? Wonder the effort involved in dying it black, or if you'd be spending money on a rewrap immediately 🤔

I know a couple people that bought beige and grey ones and they were sagging on delivery. They had been sitting in the box for 15+ years. Dealer gave them a nice discount that they applied towards a re-wrap. Worth rolling the dice IMO

                              I certainly wouldn’t mind taking a rainbow-colored one at this point 😂😂😂

Anyone find any leads on this? I'm getting tired of going to junkyards just searching for a slicktop E46... I don't see any other options.
All the WTB posts across the FB groups and forums have come back nil.
