I've seen the torque spec for driveshaft to giubo listed as 44 ft-lbs for 10.9 bolt and 74 ft-lbs for 12.9 bolt. However, our torque spec document says 85 ft-lbs, period.

I'm assuming 44 is correct (I have the 10.9 bold)? Just seems low.

Best way to trailer an M3 across country?

I’ll be driving from Houston to SD in the next 10 days and would like to bring an M3 for the trip, unsure of best way to trailer one as I’ll just be renting from U-haul or if there’s another suggestion. Towing vehicle is just a Lexus GX, so the gas mileage should be fantastic, with lots of refueling stops along the way.

Yes, but for how long, who knows. And don't crack the alloy when pressing.

Do you have another bushing suggestion? $500+ finned cover just seems wild for a busing replacement.

I went with AKG (poly, black 95a iirc). I LOVE the more immediate power transfer (strong and crisp), but the extra NVH is why many go with stock bushes. I solved the problem by laying down a sheet of closed cell foam under the entire rear bench. Cut down the noise very significantly.

I have a set of 95a. So it’s just louder? Highway diff whine? I’m more worried about vibration as I know that’s at the limit of my passengers tolerance right now (engine and trans mounts)

I'd say it's a fairly equal uptick in all 3 categories - Noise (a bit of whine esp on the frwy), slight Vibrations and yes a bit Harsher, but like I said, I enjoy a part of that aspect which others might call "driveline shock." The foam cut down most noise, some vibration, but pretty much just the N category.

You could also use poly for the rear 2, but stock for the front for a more balanced approach? Warning - sellers warn not to do that. I assume they're caliming mismatched parts will lead to uneven wear or something like that, though the caution could easily just be financially motivated rather than giving truly useful advice. Or maybe the advice makes more sense for regular people, not those like us who do lots of DIY and also don't put 15k miles on a year.

The U-haul worked well for me; a few things I would do different If given the opportunity.

1. The front bumper caught on the leading edge of trailer, and needed more encouragement than one would want to get it fully on.
   • OEM suspension I do not think would be an issue or I could have raised the car.
   • You could've also put some 2x4s down under the front tires and it wouldn't be an issue.
   • I was going to back it on, but I thought that would have done more damage to the front bumper.

2. Things to be aware of if you go this route.

1. I used my own straps. I could not get a good fit with the standard U-haul fronts.
2. Getting in and out of the car was not an enjoyable process. The doors will hit the trailer fenders.

Overall I don't think you'll have any serious issues if you go this route, the trailers are overbuilt. To your point, The GX is up to the task assuming you have enough fuel!

Every uhaul trailer I've rented has had the fender that folded down on the driver side to avoid the door hitting it.... which was useless, since I backed the car on due to the front bumper overhang. With the weight distribution of the car I've never had any ill trailer responses with it on backwards.
The wood under the front wheels is a good suggestion. I always had some with me but use it to get up/down the ramps easier. Uhaul will be the most affordable, I looked at renting else where but the prices weren't even close. I've had no issues with their straps.
