Could it be that the insider's desire for 6MT slick top coupes are simply swamped by outsiders with longer money who would prefer a SMG drop top? Is that not possible? Of course it is. The hard core group is always the minority.

Not everyone who wants one of these is interested in tracking it, weight reduction, carbon look alike parts, etc. Some just want a classic athletic 4-seater drop top that they can drive when ready and not think about when they're not driving it. And they may have longer paper to afford it as a 4th or 5th car. It happens.

One car I passed on as "too expensive" in 2010 was purchased LITERALLY by the guy who walked in behind me. He was like "you're not buying that one?" (Silver Grey over Imola drop top SMG, listed as TiAG over Imola by some off brand dealer in NJ -- I was there visiting). He looked to be about 10 years older than me and I'm pretty sure he wrote a check. Car wasn't my desired color + was about $10k too high in my estimation (I'm a picky buyer). Plus it was a 4th car at the time, so I wasn't going a penny over my number.

I still think the SMG drop top will command premiums in the future, just because most people I know who like these cars have too much money and not enough time to be on chat rooms. They just like the car. And $45k for one of these is like "Fine" given what similar Porsches cost these days.

    Flame suit on...

Those last two vert listings are perfect examples of why you should pay for a photo shoot when you want to sell a car. Blue one is for sure a cooler car, both had the same mileage and interior but the silver one had better photos, less of them, (and was from a salty road nightmare area to boot) and STILL sold for ~$8k more.

Hence, BaT's "Premium Listing" offering... which started last year IIRC... I always wondered if they got into the photo business or subbed it out to photogs local to the listings.

Nate, next time you are in DFW area, I want you to take pix of my cars. Not for sale, but just for the heck of it.
Could do some epic group shots.

Good point regarding photos. But "cool" colors are also polarizing. I think silver and silver gray have the widest appeal, especially to non-enthusiasts.

That, plus I think lighter colors show this car’s curves better. The flared wheel wells (which everyone loves) are more pronounced, it seems to me. So that may be the view even of enthusiasts. I pretty much settled on a red interior first, and while the Carbon Black, Black and Silver Grey over Imola cars I test drove were “nice”, only the classic Silver over red grabbed me. I always thought this car’s only real limitation was the available interior color options. Not surprisingly, examples that “fix” that limitation are commanding premiums.

They have a "White Glove" service (cost to seller is $2k) and I think there's also an intermediate service of some kind that's a little less. You can do those if you need a referral, or you can of course provide your own photos if you have someone in mind already.

We could shoot your car sometime just for fun if you want, LMK 😎

I thought it would be nice if they had an artist registry (for folks like you) to sort of spread the wealth a bit more. That would have been good as well as cool, to build an ecosystem of car enthusiasts around their core platform, beyond buying and selling — photogs, who meet the sellers, and the mechanics whose lifts the cars are on for pictures, the storage facilities, etc. Coulda been like an Angies List for car guys built around BaT. But alas… I digress.

I think one was $299… I hadn’t heard of the white glove service.

Yea they do, sort of. It's not like a public list of names though. I agree that would be nice. They want to and sell their services instead of just giving out names though.
