Does it count as a manual if it was born an SMG though? I’m talking strictly cars lol, I have no issue with people.

That is part of why I'm curious about the deviation as there has always been the discussion of converted cars and value. Personally I have no issue with conversions depending on who did the conversion and their experience level. Although the biggest factor on this one is certainly the color.

Thanks oceansize for updating that graph, and the average prices very interesting. Is there a way for me to organize high price to low?

You can. Just click the "E" column header and sort Z->A

The color is definitely cool/unique but it’s not worth much of a premium IMO.

Thanks oceansize added the updated spreadsheet to the blog post. BaT scored a very positive story in the NYT last month. Total sales over $230 million: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/05/b...-auctions.html

Now that E46 M3s are getting to the point where super-clean examples are more and more sought after, I think it's starting to be similar to the air-cooled 911 market where tasteful conversions are allowed value-wise, especially (and maybe only if) the conversion is done with documentation that good parts were used and done by someone who knows what they were doing. Not that E46s will ever be crazy like the air-cooled market, but it's becoming one exception to the rule that mods only reduce value and never increase it.

Also, it helps that it's literally the same transmission the car came with, just the electronic shit removed, more or less. So you don't have to wonder about the source of the donor transmission.

Honesty I think that unless it's a super low mile/mint ZCP, a standard M3 coupe wouldn't be hugely affected by a well-documented manual conversion.
Values would be more based on the overall condition of the car, etc.

So the black 05 61k mile car didn’t hit reserve at 20k. Sort of interesting but I can see how mileage would warrant a bit more. it was a weird auction, a $110k typo bid, pretty much nothing from the seller, and not a lot of talking until the last few hours.

I wouldn't pay much more than $20k for Carbon Black even at 61k miles. Probably my least desired color on this chassis apart from Phoenix Yellow

Fair result for this one I think despite current economic status....don't think it sold for much less than it would have sold for 2 months ago. Needed some maintenance but for $27k + fees it's a great buy imo!

The messing metallic sold for $22k - such a great color.
