We really are living in the future. Bry5on has been telling me I need to 3d print my headers but I am a neanderthal when it comes to CAD. I use Fusion360 and I just cannot wrap my head around making a tube in multiple planes/3d. If anyone has some good tutorials or tips I'd love to hear it.'09 HP2S, '12 R12GSA, '00 Black 323iT, '02 Alpine 325iT (Track Wagon), '02 Alpine 330iT

This is a decent overview of the process: https://youtu.be/rJtX_xwq_4MOriginally posted by George Hill View PostWe really are living in the future. Love his channel. And yes he gives an overview of the process. Its the actual design implementation that I struggle with. I'm fairly proficient in making 2d CAD drawings, but when I have to make a single line that traverses the X, Y and Z axis thats where I get lost. Which is 100% necessary for header design.'09 HP2S, '12 R12GSA, '00 Black 323iT, '02 Alpine 325iT (Track Wagon), '02 Alpine 330iT

We should be able to print in a shoulder/joint to pretty easily use a compressible seal like the factory headers. I'd say that would be preferable to any sort of slip joint. Slip joints are for weldingOriginally posted by digger View Postone of the issue i see with 3D printing is getting a slip joint to seal if that is a design feature that is necessary for ease of assembly

I've been assuming that the move is to print the final step inclusive of the merge, with each first or first+second step as its own pipe+flange. Then fixture those up with a simple fixture, weld, and enjoy.Originally posted by digger View Post

yes, but with one whole piece having 3 primaries, collector merge and collector pipes segment it makes it much more difficult to install particularly as the primaries get longerOriginally posted by Bry5on View Post

Does anyone have any information on what effects can be expected from noncircular exhaust runner cross sections? As in if you were to flow from a round profile to a D or triangular shaped profile, while maintaining cross sectional area, and avoiding any sudden transitions, can you assume the runner would behave like an equivalent round cross section? I would think that if cross sections can be non-circular, then lots of interesting things could be done regarding packaging and weight saving.

Those actually priced well, other companies I checked quoted 5k +Originally posted by F360C View PostHave you guys seen these? I don't have any experience with the them but they're a copy of the P54 headers.

With 3d printing I can easily bundle 3 primaries together into an interconnected profile and they end up as a similar diameter to a 2.5" collector. I was going to look at the p54 design and see if I could follow a similar layout but with longer primaries and getting the merges inline with each other. If that's possible I can probably fit any length of primaries without going totally bundle of snakes like I have on the last few layouts.i really want to get the merges in line because I think that will sound way better.
