I welded in some cheapo 200cell cats when I did headers. They smelled like the wash coat was gone in the first 2000 miles also, so not great. That being said, I'm not the best person to judge stock "noise". The car was quiet and stock at low speed and load. It sounded really bad(IMO) under hard load. Resonance at 3000rpm also. Typical buzzy raspy S54.
This just sounds like stock but good to me. Less rasp, more refined, tone/volume is pretty close. Other mods are Karb race box and megan headers. The airbox dominates sound from the divers seat but reflection off buildings, curbs, and underpasses sounds great.
The butt dyno says it makes a little more top end power but butt dynos are pretty unreliable. I used 2.25in piping and 400 cell cats. The manzo stuff was 2.5in.
